Woodland Public Schools - Substitute GroundskeeperThe Groundskeeper 1 works under the direction of Groundskeeper 2 and the Director of Facilities and Safety to keep the district's grounds in a state of operating excellence. Ensure that the grounds present no problems or interruptions to educational programs and promote a culture of landscaping excellence. This includes grounds maintenance, minor repairs, and regular maintenance to facilities. The Groundskeeper 1 assists toward the accomplishment of the mission of the Woodland Public Schools of preparing students for career, life, and college so that they can become responsible and successful citizens.Qualifications:Recent Groundskeeping or Landscaping experienceHigh School Diploma or EquivalentWorking knowledge of Grounds practicesUnderstanding of safety protocols associated with various fertilizers and other chemicalsUnderstanding of the use and need for PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)Ability to work around children and present a positive role modelAbility to effectively communicate with othersAbility to follow oral or written work orders from supervisorsAbility to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snowAbility to safely work above ground from laddersRegular and punctual attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirementsOther Requirements:Ability to cooperate with people of all agesAssists parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programsPreferred: Previous experience with hand tools and power equipment, including snow blowers, leaf blowers, shovels, a power mower, and hand toolsEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Operate tractor and PTO attachmentsClean and repair gutters and downspoutsComplete scheduled equipment on landscaping equipmentWinterize landscaping equipmentDistribute consumable supplies as neededDeice sidewalks, ramps, and parking areas as neededSet up stadium and outdoor areas for events as directedGrade gravel roads as neededFertilize fields as neededRepair irrigation systems as neededDeploy roof moss control as neededTrim bushes and trees as neededEmpty exterior trash receptaclesDisperse food deliveries to all schoolsMove deliveries and packages throughout the districtRemove graffiti when identified or foundAttend meetings as required for training and communicationIdentify and correct safety deficiencies when they are identified or foundComply with the school district's regulations and the local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and recyclable materialsPerform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisorOther Expectations:Work Habits: Performs duties efficiently, Utilizes time appropriately, Maintains an organized and safe work area, Ensures confidentiality of Information, Adheres to regulations, Produces quality work, Completes work on schedule, Shows Initiative, Demonstrates flexibility, Uses safety equipment when appropriate, Adapts and incorporates program and policy changesInterpersonal Skills: Shows respect for others, Shows sensitivity to the needs of others, Displays effective listening skills, Communicates problems and concerns effectively and courteously, Dependability, Works independently of close supervision, Maintains an acceptable attendance record, Arrives on time and ready to workAttitude: Demonstrates a positive feeling for work, Accepts difficult assignments, Accepts supervision re: direction, improvement, Acts professionally on the job siteTechnical Skills: Maintains and operates equipment, Performs assigned cleaning tasks, Follows appropriate safety guidelines, Maintains accurate reports/records, Demonstrates overall knowledge of job requirementsOther: Wears proper clothing and footwear, Presents an appropriate appearance, Participates in and takes advantage of educational opportunities, Provides emergency assistance when needed, Reports major repair needs, During vacation periods or days when students and staff are not in the building, work with custodial/maintenance staff on mid-year and/or end-of-year cleaning, maintenance, and other assigned tasks, Lower U.S. flag and Washington State flag at the end of each student school day, Regularly communicate with the Director of Facilities and Safety and building administrators for things needing to be done (check the mailbox daily for messages), Know the location of and how to operate all emergency shut-off equipment and security systemsPhysical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to sit, bend head/neck, and use hands for repetitive grasping and for pushing/pulling. The employee occasionally is required to use their hands for fine finger manipulation. The employee is required to occasionally squat, kneel, climb stairs/ladder, reach overhead, lie down, crawl, and knee stand. The employee must frequently lift /carry up to 10 pounds and must occasionally lift/carry up to 60 pounds. The employee is required to push a maximum of 40 pounds and pull a maximum of 100 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors and is exposed to variable weather conditions, including rain, freezing weather, and hot and/or humid weather. There is potential exposure to debris when using a blower. The employee is expected to use chemical products and pesticides; the employee should not be sensitive or allergic to such materials. Personal protection equipment is required to be worn for pesticide application, including a dust mask, rubber clothing, gloves, rubber boots, and eye wear. Safety equipment is required to be worn when an employee is at risk for being struck, including a safety vest, hard hats, boots, and safety glasses. Eyeglasses must be worn when sharpening blades. Hearing protection, including earplugs, noise reduction earmuffs, and sometimes both, must be worn for the majority of tasks. The employee is expected to properly wear all personal protection provided by the District. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
