Substitute GroundspersonMaintain corporation grounds, playgrounds, athletic fields, parking lots, walkways and roadways in a clean and safe manner while promoting the mission of Perry Township Schools. Provide a clean, comfortable and safe environment for all district sites, associated buildings and adjacent grounds while promoting the mission of Perry Township Schools.Essential Job Functions:Assists grounds department with all grounds tasks as neededMaintains and cares for school grounds and athletic fieldsCuts and maintains lawns with hand or power mowersPrepares seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil or adding fertilizer or chemicals, if neededPlants seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings and shrubberyRakes and maintains leaves, plants, flowers, trees or shrubsPrunes trees and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearanceMows, stripes, and assists in athletic field preparation and maintenanceShovels snow from sidewalks, drives and parking lotsSpreads sand, salt or other chemicals to prevent slippingPerforms general manual labor tasks including loading, unloading, lifting and moving materialsOperates equipment and machinery in a fashion to provide a safe, natural environmentMaintains and adjusts equipment such as mowers, irrigation systems and trimmersRepairs outdoor chairs, benches and other items as neededPromotes an environment free of harassment and discriminationDemonstrates a commitment to workDemonstrates good judgment and common senseAvailable to work additional hours and/or be on call as required to meet the needs of the positionAssist with snow and ice removalAssist with other duties that may be assignedEquipment Use:Hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand toolsTravel Requirements:Frequent travel between schools, or between school and the Central Office may be required.Pay Rate: $16.80 per hour.Work Schedule: As needed (and < 20 hours per week).Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to work independently with minimum supervisionWorking knowledge of tools and equipmentManual dexterity and problem-solving skillsGood physical condition and strength with a willingness to work overtimePhysical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:Very Frequent: Working on your feet, lifting up to 75 pounds, bending, reaching overhead, ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter, operation of job-related equipment, working with hand tools, ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversationOften: Working with hand toolsLicense/ Registration/ Certification:Valid Indiana State Driver's License with 4 points or lessEducation:Ability to read and writeExperience:Previous experience is preferred.FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
