Substitute Paraprofessional
A Substitute Paraprofessional, also known as a Substitute Teacher Assistant, plays a crucial role in educational settings. Here are the key duties and qualifications for this position:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Understanding the daily schedule: Substitute paraprofessionals familiarize themselves with the daily routine and tasks that need completion.
Individualized instruction: Providing extra assistance and instruction to individual students or small groups to reinforce lessons.
Behavior intervention: When students exhibit problem behaviors, substitute paraprofessionals intervene and model good behavior for the entire class.
Supervision during activities: They supervise students during outside recess, lunch in the cafeteria, and other activities.
Clerical tasks: Assisting with administrative duties, such as taking attendance and calculating grades.
Supporting therapists: In school settings, they aid therapists who work with students.
Data collection: Collecting data and compiling reports.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED, along with two years of post-secondary education or the ability to meet state requirements.
Interest in working with children.
Consistent supervision skills and good role modeling.
Patience and previous successful experience working with elementary school students is preferred.
