Substitute Security OfficerCoordinate the safety and security functions for the building.Essential Functions:Work closely with the School Administration to implement regular building checks, routine security procedures, and handle security problems that may occurOther Duties and Responsibilities:Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Superintendent or the Board of EducationDevelop and maintains a positive and welcoming climate in the building reception areaAssists visitors with directions and secures proper identificationRefer tardy students to the attendance clerkGreets everyone entering the building and directs them to the appropriate location according to building proceduresPrevents unauthorized visitors from entering the schoolReport any unauthorized visitors, to the Administration. Notify the building administration, or appropriate personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situationsParticipate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs.Promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and dressing and grooming professionallyDisplay ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the schoolProtect confidentiality of records and information about staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confinesAs requested, patrols and monitors hallways, stairwells, toilet facilities, outside facilities, and other public and unsupervised places of the school to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff and the security of the facilityAs requested, assists with supervision of morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of studentsQualifications:Hold a high school diploma or its equivalentHold and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious violationsHave excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiativeExhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the communityDemonstrate the ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabularyRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsPublic relations skillsAdditional Working Conditions:Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissueOccasional interaction among unruly childrenOccasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditionsOccasional requirement to travel, both daily, at night and overnightOccasional evening/weekend/summer workOccasional repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writingThis job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
