Job Profile

The Patient Care Assistant II (PCA II) is accountable for supporting patient care activities, under the supervision of a registered nurse, in the clinic setting and on inpatient nursing units. The PCA II works closely with the charge nurse and staff nurses to assure patient care needs are met. The PCA II performs patient care activities, as delegated, and adheres to patient safety measures. The PCA II is proficient in the performance of basic patient care activities, medical terminology, communication, organizational, and computer skills. The PCA II demonstrates and role models personal and professional effectiveness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:

a. Education: High School diploma or the equivalent plus technical skills/training appropriate to the specialty area.

b. Licensure/Certification: Nursing/Medical Assistant Certification required.

Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart

Association (AHA) approved program.

Other certificates as required by unit/service/clinic.

2. Work Experience: One (1) year related clinical experience required.

3. Skills/Knowledge: Mental Health First Aid within 90 days of hire.

EKG, and/or Phlebotomy competency validation required, as

applicable to specialty area within 6 months of hire.
