Job description
We are seeking a Cardiac Surgery Physician Assistant for a long-term locum assignment in Worcester, Massachusetts , beginning January 2027. This is an inpatient cardiac surgery position providing both ICU and OR coverage , with advanced cardiac support experience needed.
Assignment Details
Start Date: January 4, 2027
End Date: January 3, 2028
Approximately 1-year assignment
Inpatient Cardiac Surgery
Local candidates preferred

Schedule & Call
Variable shifts
Approximately hours per shift
OR team call required
Approximately 2 nights of call per week
Approximately 1 weekend of call per month
Overtime after the scheduled shift
Practice Setting
Inpatient Cardiac Surgery
ICU and operating room coverage
Epic EMR
Approximately 5 10 ICU patients per day
Approximately 1 2 OR cases per day
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide perioperative and ICU cardiac surgery coverage
Central line insertion, including dialysis lines
Arterial line insertion
Swan-Ganz catheter placement
Chest tube insertion
IABP removal
Temporary pacing wire removal
Advanced Cardiac Support
Candidates should be comfortable working with:
LVAD, including HeartMate
Impella
VA ECMO
IABP
Ventilator management
Bedside ultrasound
Requirements
Physician Assistant
Massachusetts license preferred, but not required
Must be willing to obtain a Massachusetts DEA registration
Must be willing to obtain Massachusetts CSR
Experience with the listed cardiac surgery procedures and advanced mechanical circulatory support is expected
Additional board certification and experience requirements were not specified
Ideal Candidate
An experienced Cardiac Surgery PA comfortable providing both OR and ICU coverage , including invasive line placement and management of patients requiring LVAD, Impella, VA ECMO, and IABP support . Candidates should also be able to participate in the required night and weekend OR call rotation.
