Surgical Physician Assistant

Norfolk, VA $122,984 - $153,146 a year

Embrace Precision and Purpose — Become a Surgical Physician Assistant in Vibrant Norfolk, VA

In the world of surgery, every operating room has its unique rhythm—a blend of precision, trust, and intricate communication. As a Physician Assistant with a surgical focus, your role is vital: you're present not just in the operating room, but also at the bedside, during follow-up visits, and behind the scenes where healing truly begins.

We are on the lookout for a dedicated, detail-oriented PA to enrich our surgical services team with your full-time commitment. Here, you will work closely with a talented group of surgeons and compassionate nurses, ensuring that each patient's experience is seamless, supported, and centered around their well-being. Whether you're preparing a patient for surgery with clarity or confidently facilitating instruments during a procedure, you'll witness the profound impact of your care — in a place where both your talent and tenacity are genuinely appreciated.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical exams and in-depth reviews of medical histories

Assist in evaluating and diagnosing surgical conditions by interpreting imaging studies and lab results

Collaborate closely with the surgical team to create and implement individualized surgical treatment plans

Provide intraoperative support: prepping the operating room, ensuring patient positioning, and passing instruments during procedures

Deliver outstanding pre- and post-operative care, including medication management, wound care, discharge planning, and patient education

Education

A Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program

Completion of clinical rotations with a focus on surgical practice is highly preferred

Certifications

Valid and unrestricted PA-C certification

BLS and ACLS certifications necessary

State licensure (or eligibility) as a Physician Assistant

Skills

Solid understanding of surgical principles and sterile technique

Demonstrated ability to interpret diagnostic tests and contribute to complex clinical decisions

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to perform under pressure, especially during surgical cases

Empathetic bedside manner with a strong commitment to patient dignity and autonomy

Benefits

Attractive salary with performance incentives

Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental, and vision

Generous paid time off and reimbursement for continuing medical education (CME)

A supportive team environment with access to state-of-the-art equipment and resources

Opportunities for career advancement in a dynamic healthcare setting

Your Role in the Surgical Process

As a Surgical Physician Assistant, your contribution extends beyond technical proficiency; it's about maintaining calm when the unexpected arises and providing reassurance when a patient's anxiety outpaces their hope. You'll be active in the OR but also a reassuring voice in the hallways, explaining diagnoses, guiding families through challenges, and assisting patients in navigating their next steps.

Your involvement will span everything from minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures to more intricate patient surgeries, with continued engagement post-operatively — during wound checks, recovery discussions, and planning for the long term. Your insights will be valued, your clinical acumen trusted, and your contributions respected in each stage of patient care.

This is a team that prizes your insights, recognizing that every successful surgery is the result of collective effort, built upon trust, humility, and unwavering care.

If you possess a sharp intellect, steady hands, and a heartfelt dedication to healing, you will find a welcoming home here.
