Job description

Surgical Physician Assistant

Portland, OR $122,230 - $153,170 a year

Precision in Practice, Partnership in Healing — Become a Surgical Physician Assistant in Enchanting Portland

Every surgical environment hums with its unique rhythm — a blend of precision, trust, and collaboration. As a Physician Assistant focused on surgery, you understand the importance of your role: not just within the operating room, but also at the bedside, during follow-up visits, and in those quiet moments where true healing takes root.

We are in search of a committed and detail-oriented PA to enhance our surgical services in a full-time capacity. In this position, you will stand side by side with adept surgeons and compassionate nurses, ensuring that each patient's journey through surgery is smooth, supportive, and centered around their individual needs. Whether you're coaching a patient through pre-operative instructions or confidently supplying instruments during operations, your impact will resonate each day — in a setting that deeply appreciates your skills and determination.

Job Responsibilities

Perform thorough patient evaluations, including comprehensive physical assessments and meticulous reviews of medical records

Assist in identifying and diagnosing surgical conditions through careful analysis of imaging studies and laboratory results

Work closely with surgeons to develop and implement tailored surgical treatment strategies for patients

Provide intraoperative assistance, which involves preparing the surgical setting, ensuring appropriate patient positioning, and facilitating instrument exchange during procedures

Deliver exceptional pre-operative and post-operative care, including the administration of medications, wound management, discharge planning, and guiding patient education

Education Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program

Completion of clinical rotations with a surgical focus is highly preferred

Certifications Required

Current and unrestricted PA-C certification

Both BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory

State licensure (or eligibility) to practice as a Physician Assistant

Essential Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of surgical principles and sterile techniques

Proven capability to interpret diagnostic tests and engage in complex clinical decision-making

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

Able to flourish in high-pressure settings, particularly during surgical procedures

Empathetic bedside manner accompanied by profound respect for patients' dignity and autonomy

Benefits Offered

Attractive salary alongside performance bonuses

Comprehensive health benefits (including medical, dental, and vision)

Generous vacation time and reimbursement for continuing medical education (CME)

A supportive team atmosphere with access to top-quality equipment and resources

Opportunities for career progression in a vibrant and expanding healthcare landscape

Your Role in the Surgical Experience

Being a Surgical Physician Assistant encompasses much more than just technical abilities — it involves maintaining calmness during the unpredictable moments and providing comfort when a patient's anxiety overshadows their hope. Your role will be hands-on in the OR, while also serving as a reassuring presence in the corridors, helping explain diagnoses, advising families, and guiding patients on their roads to recovery.

You will be involved in everything from minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques to more intricate surgical cases. Yet your impact will extend beyond the operating room — you'll play a key role in patient follow-ups, discussing recovery, monitoring wound care, and devising long-term care plans. Your insights are valued, your clinical perspective holds sway, and your voice is cherished in decisions big and small.

This is a collaborative team that appreciates your viewpoint and recognizes that each successful surgery relies on collective effort — built upon trust, humility, and an unwavering commitment to care.

You might be at the beginning of your surgical journey or possess extensive experience in intraoperative support — regardless, we treasure character above all else. If you possess a sharp intellect, steady hands, and a sincere heart for healing, you will find your niche with us.

Let's Unite Where Purpose Aligns with Precision

This opportunity transcends mere employment. It's a calling — to assist others in regaining strength, restoring mobility, and returning to their lives in even better condition than before.

Join a team that values each contribution, shares successes, and recognizes that every patient is more than just a record. If you are prepared to apply your surgical skills in a location that celebrates clinical excellence alongside deep interpersonal connections, we eagerly await your introduction.
