Surgical Physician Assistants, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposed, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient and that a qualified practitioner is not immediately available.The activities listed below may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes and other institution settings.Essential Functions>Abscess, Incision & Drainage>Anesthesia, local>Arterial Punctures>Arterial Line, removal>Bladder Irrigation>Blood Products, administration>Casts, applications & removal>CVP Line, removal>EKG Recording>Enteral Feed Tubes, insertion and removal>Foley Catheters, insertion and removal>Immobilization, extremities>Injections, Sub Q, IM intradermal>Intravenous Medication, administration>Lacerations, repair of>Nail Trephining>Nasogastric Tubes, insertion and removal>Oropharyngeal Airway (current ACLS required)>Pap Smear>Skin Tests, administration of>First Assist ion Operating Room>Suction>Surgical Dressings, application/removal>Sutures and/or staple removal>Venipuncture>Wound DebridementQualificationsBS RequiredMS PreferredNYS Physician’s Assistant LicensureGraduate of ARC-PA accredited PA ProgramOHS Fit TestOHS Annual AssessmentMontefiore Mount Vernon Hospital is an equal employment opportunity employer.
