Surgical Technologist - Operating Room, United General Hospital
PeaceHealth is seeking ON CALL/RELIEF Surgical Technologists for our Operating Room. We have day and variable shifts available.
The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $30.22 – $45.32. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job Summary

Nestled in picturesque Sedro-Woolley, PeaceHealth United General Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital, covering an expansive territory of over 2,000 square miles in Skagit and Whatcom counties. You'll find our refreshingly small hospital, a breath of fresh air.
This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.
Essential Functions
Arrange and inventory sterile set-up for operation and pass items as needed to the surgical team.
Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instrumentation. Assist with clean-up and room turnover.
Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
Participate in all safety initiatives. Adhere to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Preferred: Accredited Program Surgical Technology or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist.
Experience
Preferred: 1 year experience as a surgical technologist in a full-service operating room.
Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.
Credentials
Required: Surgical Technician - Washington.
Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support.
Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist.
Skills
Well organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated (Required).
Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others (Required).
Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision (Required).
Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications (Required).
Understanding of operating room protocols (Required).
Working Conditions
Lifting
Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
Frequent reaching/bending/squatting/kneeling/grasping.
Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasionally up to 30 lbs. force.
Environmental Conditions
Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual
Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
