THE POSITION

Would you enjoy a career focused on navigating a team that helps shape accurate roadway and construction projects? The Survey Technician Supervisor position with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) offers a hands-on leadership opportunity that supports accurate surveying for major projects. This role gives you the chance to guide a survey team using both traditional and electronic tools. You will help ensure that important measurements and field data are collected correctly. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supervises survey team operations, ensures accurate data collection, and oversees field procedures related to transportation projects. As a Survey Technician Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

Survey Supervision: Oversee field measurements and electronic data downloads for survey activities

Equipment Operation: Guide staff in using both manual and electronic surveying instruments and related tools

Work Planning: Prepare daily and weekly work plans to support efficient field operations

Record Review: Examine field records for accuracy, completeness, and proper formatting for design systems

Safety Monitoring: Ensure work zones follow safety rules and protect employees, equipment, and the public

Staff Development: Provide training, coaching, and evaluation of survey team members

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment

Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

This position will be headquartered at the district office closest to the applicant's location, based on available space.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office location. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of experience as a Survey Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

Four years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments; or

Two years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.

Condition of Employment:

This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
