Job description
Switchboard OperatorUnder the direction of the Manager Telecommunications, the Operator is responsible for monitoring and operating the central hospital communications systems, associated alarm systems, radio and paging systems. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Hospital.Responsibilities:Demonstrates the ability to process external and internal telephone calls in an efficient, speedy, and courteous manner.Demonstrates efficient and accurate monitoring and operation of communications equipment.Ability to monitor and respond to all fire, panic, door, maintenance, code 99, and miscellaneous alarms, as well as inside/outside disaster contingencies.Demonstrates quality customer service skills while providing information over the telephone, and at times in person.Shows efficient and courteous handling of repair and support concerns, and facilitates for equipment loans for services provided by the department.Creates clear, complete written documentation of job activities as needed.Make announcements over intercom and paging systems showing accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.Shows ability and motivation to learn and utilize new procedures, techniques, equipment, and services as they are introduced.Performs additional duties as required or assigned.Competencies and Skills:Behaves with Integrity and Builds TrustCultivates RespectFosters AccountabilityPractices CompassionEducation:Required High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED)Working Conditions:Potential exposure to abusive and/or aggressive people.Potential exposure to hazardous materials.Potential exposure to noise levels being uncomfortable.Potential exposure to noxious odors.Potential exposure to very hot or cold temperatures.Work with computers, typing, reading or writing.Lifting, moving and loading less than 20 pounds.Prolonged periods of sitting.Questions?
