Switchboard OperatorStatus: Full TimeLocation: RGH 1425 Portland Avenue Rochester, NY 14621Department: SwitchboardSchedule: Evenings, Rotating Weekends RequiredSummaryAs a Switchboard Operator, your superior interpersonal and organizational skills, along with your dedication to customer service is vital to ensuring overall customer satisfaction.ResponsibilitiesCall Management. Answer incoming/outgoing/internal calls to the switchboard, promptly and courteously giving priority to STAT and/or emergency calls; connect calls to appropriate personnel; monitor emergency radio, fire panel and other alarm panels; provide over-head page for all internal and external disaster situations (code calls and drills)General Assistance. Provide patient information to customers via computer access and printed reports; enter department schedules, updating as needed; miscellaneous duties as requested by the managerMinimum QualificationsTwo (2) years customer service experience, preferably in a fast-paced environment settingDemonstrated compassion, empathy and customer service skillsStrong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent diction and articulationAbility to multitask and work under rigorous pressureProficient in use of computers; must be able to type a minimum of 35 wpmPreferred QualificationsBilingual preferred; able to pass a language proficiency assessment within 30 days of hireEducation:Licenses / Certifications:Physical Requirements:Sedentary - Sedentary roles are primarily office-based and require prolonged sitting (67–100% of the workday) with minimal physical effort and lifting limited to under 10 lbs. Fine motor skills are necessary for computer work, writing, and telephone use, supported by clear visual and auditory ability. Cognitive and emotional demands are high due to extended concentration, frequent interruptions, independent decision-making, and information processing. Although physical exposure is low, administrative areas within healthcare environments may occasionally involve contact with infectious agents. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
