nPrimary Purpose

nServe as a mentor to high school students during the Summer Symposium: 5-day, 4-night program at the COCC Bend campus.

nDates of program: June 21-25, 2026 – with required additional training sessions prior, dates TBD .

nEssential Duties and Responsibilities

nnnSupervise students throughout symposium making sure students meet expectations, monitoring behavior, encourage participation and develop leadership skills.

n

nnParticipate in and/or lead all activities while providing guidance to students.

n

nnAssist Coordinators with all logistics including check in/check-out, material distributions, student registration preparations, calling students for confirmations, etc.

n

nnServe as a mentor/leader to address/listen to student concerns.

n

nnOther duties as assigned.

nTier 1: New mentor $1350

nTier 2: Returning mentor $1650

nTier 3: Lead mentor: $1950

nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities

nIndividuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

nnnKnowledge and skill in working effectively within diverse communities.

n

nnInteract professionally with students, families, professors, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

n

nnAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.

n

nnExcellent communication skills and ability to manage conflicts within and/or between groups.

n

nnExperience with email, Internet, word-processing, and spreadsheets (preferably experience with MS Office Suite products).

n

nnDemonstrated experience in leadership activities.

n

nnStrong skills in working effectively in a team environment.

n

n nErgonomic Requirements

nWork will be performed in and out of classroom settings. Mentors are required to stay on campus for the entire duration of the program. There will be optional but encouraged physical components of the symposium including but not limited to hiking, swimming, walking, climbing stairs, sitting, singing, dancing, etc. Must be able to safely lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

nnnHigh School diploma or GED

nnCurrent or recent COCC student, and/or college student from other regions

n

nnKnowledge of working with diverse student populations

n

nnAdherence to the COCC Drug Free Workplace Policy G-32-6 – see below
