We are seeking an experienced System Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and support sophisticated radio communication and 911 dispatch systems across Southern Minnesota. This hands-on role combines field service, system diagnostics, radio programming, equipment staging, and customer support, with regular travel to public safety and law enforcement sites throughout the region.The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, technically skilled problem solver with hands-on experience supporting Motorola 911 dispatch consoles, strong RF and networking knowledge, and the judgment to work independently in mission-critical environments.Salary Range: $67,800 – $93,600 / Year DOEResponsibilitiesInstall, maintain, troubleshoot, and support Motorola 911 dispatch consoles, radio communication systems, and related equipmentTravel to customer locations within approximately a two-hour radius, independently managing service calls across multiple countiesDiagnose system issues using analytical, stimulus-and-response testing methods, adjusting priorities quickly when outages or urgent service needs ariseProgram radios, stage equipment for upcoming installations, and perform technical work within the shop as neededService tower-site equipment while following proper safety procedures and understanding equipment access limitations, with no tower climbing requiredTroubleshoot antennas, transmission lines, point-to-point radio systems, microwave systems, switches, VLANs, routers, BDA/DAS systems, P25 sites and related infrastructureBuild strong relationships with dispatchers, law enforcement personnel, and other customers, providing responsive, professional service and clear technical communicationRequirements5–10 years of hands-on experience as a System Technician, including setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting Motorola 911 dispatch consolesStrong working knowledge of MCC7500 or MCC7500E systems, with relevant AXS console experience also consideredExperience with dispatch console theory, radio communications, RF systems, networking, troubleshooting and system integrationWorking knowledge of antennas, transmission lines, microwave systems, Ethernet, switches, VLANs, routers and related testing methodsStrong analytical thinking, attention to detail, sound judgment and the ability to independently diagnose complex technical issuesValid driver's license, with the ability to travel regularly to customer locations throughout the service territorySelf-motivated, accountable and adaptable work style, with the ability to manage shifting priorities and complete work with minimal supervisionPreferred QualificationsMotorola R56 certification, training, or working knowledgeFCC or ETA International certification specific to RF communications, such as CETa, CET, or GROL, or the ability to obtain an applicable certification within six months of hireExperience with BDA/DAS systems, simulcast systems, P25 sites, subscriber programming and radio codeplug developmentExperience testing antennas and transmission lines using sweep testing, VNA, return loss, reflected power, or similar methodsFamiliarity with APX consoles, Cambium equipment, point-to-point radio systems and microwave communicationsExperience supporting or planning law enforcement or public safety communication centersBenefitsComprehensive employee benefits packagePaid time off and sick timeOvertime pay for hours worked beyond 40 hours per weekAdditional stipend and compensation for participating in after-hours on-call coverageCompany vehicle and company-paid fuel for eligible employees participating in after-hours callsAnnual performance reviews and opportunities for pay increasesDiscretionary bonus opportunitiesRelocation assistance may be available for qualified candidatesIf you are an experienced System Technician who takes ownership of your work, thrives on solving complex technical problems, and wants to support communication systems that communities depend on, we want to hear from you.
