Job description
Tax Manager | Fort Worth, TX | $125,000 to $150,000 | Hybrid
There's a myth in this industry that Manager level responsibility and a burned out Manager are basically the same thing, one just comes with better pay. They're not actually a package deal. Somebody just decided to sell them that way.
If you're at, or pushing toward, Manager level, you've probably got a fairly clear list of what your next firm needs to get right, and what you're not willing to repeat, especially after another September 15th that felt a lot like the last one.
An independent CPA firm in Fort Worth, TX is adding a Tax Manager to the team, someone with at least 5 years of public accounting tax experience who's comfortable owning client work, reviewing returns, supporting junior staff, and being someone people genuinely rely on.
Why this one's different
The appeal is getting that level of responsibility without automatically signing up for the lifestyle that usually comes bundled with it. Busy season is still busy, there's no way around that, but the firm keeps workloads around 50 to 55 hours a week at peak. Hybrid flexibility is part of it too, giving you more control over your week while staying properly connected to the team.
What they're looking for
At least 5 years of tax experience in a CPA or public accounting firm, ideally including return review and client management
Someone who can work independently at Manager level, juggle priorities, talk confidently with clients, and help bring along less experienced staff
CPA or EA preferred
Experience with CCH Axcess, Lacerte, or UltraTax is a plus, though other software will still be considered
Why it's worth considering
At this point in your career, a move should improve more than just the number on your paycheck. You want the responsibility and earning potential that comes with being a Tax Manager, just with realistic expectations about how much of your life it eats up.
This role offers:
$125,000 to $150,000
Busy season generally capped around 50 to 55 hours a week
Real ownership of client relationships and engagements
The chance to mentor and develop junior staff
A more sustainable way to keep progressing in public accounting
If you like the work and want to keep moving forward, but would rather do it somewhere with saner hours and less of a corporate feel, this is worth a look.
