Elder Hanson & Company, Ltd. is a well-established, small CPA firm based in downtown Naperville, Illinois,with a collaborative team working primarily in a remote environment. We are seeking an experienced, full-time remote Tax Manager to join our growing firm.
This position offers the opportunity to work directly with firm leadership and clients, take meaningful responsibility for client engagements, and contribute to a close-knit team while working remotely in a certified public accounting firm.

Our services include income tax planning and preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, financial statement reporting on the income tax basis, and business consulting.

Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Tax Manager to prepare and review a broad range of individual, business, estate, and trust income tax returns; provide tax planning and consulting services; manage client relationships; and mentor tax staff.
The ideal candidate has strong technical tax knowledge, excellent communication skills, and experience working with a variety of tax clients and return types. Experience in a small or mid-sized public accounting firm is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare complex individual, business, estate, and trust income tax returns , including Forms 1040, 1120-S, 1065, 1120, and 1041
Manage and review individual, business, estate, and trust income tax returns , including Forms 1040, 1120-S, 1065, 1120, and 1041
Prepare and review individual, business, estate, and trust income tax return projections
Manage multiple client engagements and maintain proactive client communication
Research complex federal and state income tax issues and develop practical solutions
Identify and communicate tax planning opportunities and recommendations to clients
Review financial statements and accounting records, including income tax basis financial statements
Mentor and provide technical guidance to staff and senior accountants
Assist with workflow planning, process improvement, and engagement profitability
Stay current with changes in federal and state tax laws and communicate relevant developments to clients and staff
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or related field required
Active CPA or EA license required
7+ years of progressive public accounting experience , including substantial tax preparation and review experience
Strong technical knowledge of individual, S corporation, partnership, estate, and trust taxation
Experience preparing and reviewing Form 1041 estate and trust income tax returns
Strong tax research, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Experience with Lacerte, QuickBooks Online, and other tax and accounting software is a plus
