We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join an established and growing public accounting firm at an important stage of its next chapter. With continued growth and planned partner succession, this is an opportunity to cultivate and deeply manage client relationships, lead and develop staff, contribute to business development, and build toward future firm leadership.

In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to a diverse client base while overseeing tax engagements, developing staff, managing workflow, and taking increasing responsibility of client relationships. The successful candidate will combine strong technical tax expertise with sound judgment, strong communication skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Engagement Management & Compliance

Research and analyze complex tax issues, providing technical guidance and innovative tax planning solutions.

Manage engagement economics , including budgeting, billing, and resource allocation to ensure profitability.

Represent clients in audits and examinations before the IRS and state/local tax authorities.

Client Relations & Business Development

Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, attorneys, financial advisors, and other professional referral partners.

Contribute to firm growth through networking, referrals, relationship development, and identification of opportunities to expand client relationships.

Stay current on federal, state, and international tax law changes to communicate potential impacts to clients.

Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, delivering proactive communication and strategic tax advice throughout the year.

Supervise, mentor, and train senior and staff tax accountants, providing constructive performance feedback.

Evaluate workloads and delegate tasks effectively to ensure deadlines (such as busy season peaks) are met without compromising quality.

Participate in internal training initiatives and the recruitment of new talent.

Opportunity for advancement - For the right individual who demonstrates strong technical skills, initiative, leadership, and commitment to our clients and firm, there is potential for advancement to a leadership role, and, ultimately, consideration for partnership.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education & Credentials

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s in Taxation or LLM is a plus).

Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license required.

This role features a hybrid work arrangement.

Experience

Approximately 7–10+ years of progressive tax experience in a public accounting environment; flexibility for candidates with strong technical, leadership, and client relationship experience.

Minimum of 1–2 years in a supervisory or management role.

Experience with a national, regional, or established local public accounting firm is valued. Candidates with broad client and industry exposure are especially encouraged to apply.

Technical & Soft Skills

Deep technical knowledge of federal, state and local tax regulations.

Proficiency in the tax software ProSystem fx and Microsoft Office alongside advanced Excel skills and the ability to adapt to new technologies and firm processes.

Excellent communication skills , with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts to non-technical clients.

Strong project management skills , with a proven ability to handle multiple engagements under tight deadlines.

Career Growth & Leadership Opportunity

This is more than a traditional Tax Manager position. As the firm continues to grow and senior leaders transition client relationships, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to assume increasing responsibility for clients, staff, business development, and firm leadership. For the right individual, there is a long-term path toward increased leadership responsibility and potential partnership.
