Job Description:
Leads a team of 15–25 software engineers and technical professionals in the development of advanced ground software systems and mission-support applications. Provides technical leadership, mentorship, and oversight across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, implementation, integration, test, deployment, and sustainment. Champions Agile software development practices, fostering iterative delivery, continuous improvement, and close collaboration across cross-functional teams. Responsible for staffing, talent development, training, and overall team leadership to meet business and program objectives. Manages departmental priorities, operating needs, and budgets, and partners with systems, operations, cybersecurity, and other engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-quality software solutions. Drives continuous improvement in software engineering processes, development velocity, product quality, and technical execution while ensuring alignment with company goals, schedules, and customer requirements.
Leads organizational execution by overseeing technical performance, staffing, talent development, and operational planning across assigned programs and projects, while driving improvements in processes, systems, and products. Partners with Business Development, Program Management, and senior leadership to support strategic planning, research and development priorities, and resource alignment, while contributing to customer engagements, operational decisions, and growth initiatives.
Provides leadership in resolving technical and execution challenges, influences organizational objectives and practices, and identifies emerging technologies and innovation opportunities to strengthen competitiveness and support future business pursuits.
Essential Functions:
Lead and support Software Engineering personnel across multiple programs, products, and technical efforts.
Provide functional oversight for software engineering activities including development, architecture, design, implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
Partner with program leaders to align staffing, priorities, technical direction, and software resources with business and customer needs.
Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and support employee development, engagement, and retention.
Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning for the Software Engineering.
Contribute to proposal efforts, including technical solutions, staffing plans, cost estimates, and basis of estimate development.
Support technical reviews, software risk assessments, and root cause/corrective action activities to improve execution and product quality.
Mentor team members and promote knowledge sharing, Agile practices, continuous improvement, and technical skill development.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience, including substantial embedded software background.. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
3 years of experience of functional management or program management with experience full software lifecycle development, to include but not limited to: performance management, managing staffing allocation, software development lifecycle, and Agile scrum methodologies.
Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI or SCI eligibility
Preferred Additional Skills:
Experience leading or managing technical teams, projects, or functional engineering groups
Ability to support multiple programs and balance staffing, technical priorities, and business needs
Experience working with cross-functional teams including systems, software, hardware, and program management
Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Experience with performance management, coaching, mentoring, and employee development
Experience with source control (Git), Agile development tools (Jira, Confluence), automated testing, and continuous software-delivery practices
Experience developing, deploying, or sustaining applications in Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments
Experience building or supporting cloud-native applications using containers, Kubernetes, or related orchestration platforms
Familiarity with image-processing concepts, algorithms, and analysis techniques
Familiarity with remote-sensing systems, including sensor modalities, data collection, and geospatial applications
Knowledge of engineering processes, technical reviews, and lifecycle development activities
Experience working in a defense, aerospace, or government-contractor environment
