Job description

The Technical Project Manager, Renewable Energy Forecasting, leads the successful delivery of real-time meteorological and power forecasting solutions for wind and solar asset owners, utilities, grid operators, energy traders, and other energy market participants. Operating within a Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) environment, this role serves as the primary interface between customers and a cross-functional team of meteorologists, data scientists, software engineers, IT professionals, and renewable energy subject matter experts.

The ideal candidate combines strong project management and customer relationship skills with an understanding of renewable energy operations, forecasting technologies, and data-driven decision making. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively across disciplines, including meteorology, power systems, software engineering, and machine learning, translating complex technical concepts into clear business and operational outcomes for customers and stakeholders.

This is a full-time position and can be hybrid (3 days on-site) at any UL office in the United States. This position can be fully remote if not located near a UL office.

Manage the full project lifecycle, including project scoping, budgeting, contracting, implementation, and customer launch.

Translate customer requirements into technical specifications, project plans, and actionable work assignments for internal teams.

Coordinate cross-functional resources to deliver forecasting solutions that meet contractual performance, reliability, latency, and service requirements.

Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, backlogs, and status reporting using project management and collaboration tools.

Identify, communicate, and mitigate project risks, issues, and dependencies.

Lead customer meetings, project reviews, and technical discussions, serving as a trusted advisor throughout the customer lifecycle.

Support forecast system enhancements, infrastructure initiatives, customer customizations, and research and development efforts.

Contribute technical expertise to customer proposals, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and business development activities.

Build strong customer relationships through exceptional service and proactive communication.

Provide occasional after-hours support during critical customer events, system implementations, or operational incidents.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Energy Systems, or another quantitative discipline.

3+ years of customer-facing project management experience in renewable energy, utilities, energy services, software, or a related technical environment.

Experience working directly with renewable energy asset owners, utilities, grid operators, energy traders, or other energy industry stakeholders.

Understanding of renewable energy forecasting, energy markets, grid operations, or meteorological data applications.

Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts used in forecasting systems, including model performance evaluation and data-driven decision making.

Experience using project and work management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms).

Strong stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving, and risk management skills.

Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with renewable energy forecasting, energy trading, SCADA systems, APIs, cloud platforms, or operational data integration.

Experience working within Data-as-a-Service (DaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), or other technology-enabled service delivery environments.
