Telecommunication GroundmanDepartment: TelecommunicationReports To: Telecommunication ForemanFLSA Status: Non-ExemptPay Range: $17.00 - $24.00 HourlyWork Schedule: Four 10-hour days per weekLocation: Virginia & Maryland, Travel RequiredPosition Purpose: The Communication Groundman position is your first step to a rewarding career in the construction and maintenance of our nation's Power Grid. A groundman's responsible for performing support tasks for fiber cable construction or repair.Key Responsibilities:Secure the safety of yourself and othersAssist fellow line-workers in meeting project goalsJoin storm restoration efforts in times of needOperate vehicles and equipmentContinuing training to improve technical and leadership skillsTasks:Work safely while performing new fiber cable construction or maintenance workInspect rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working orderPerform rigorous physical laborReceive and follow directionsWill work outside, frequently in inclement weatherDoes all other related work to complete the jobPhysical Aspects:The physical demands described here are typical of those that must be met by a team-member to perform the essential functions of their job in powerline construction.While performing the responsibilities of this job, team-members require talking or listening. The job frequently requires the team-member to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms.The team-member frequently requires performing rigorous physical labor; sit; climb different types of structures (wood, steel); balances; and stoop, kneels, crouches or crawls. Team members frequently lift or move up to or in-excess of 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Work Environment:While performing the responsibilities of this job, team-members may frequently experience fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Team members are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
