Job description
Temporary Painter/CarpenterThis position efficiently maintains and preserves the Academy's interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, structures, fixtures, and equipment to ensure a clean, safe and appealing appearance for those visiting, residing in, and working on campus.Key Accountabilities:Perform work in a safe and professional mannerRepair surfaces before painting, filling holes and cracks with putty or patching plasterPrepare surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, brushing, sanding, or sealingRepairing and patching drywall, plaster, and stucco as needed.Removing and installing architectural hardware, including hinges, latches as neededRoll, brush, or spray paint onto exterior surfaces, walls, ceilings, floors, equipment, trim, and molding in or on buildings and structures.Apply fine finish spray painting in spray booth using HVLP (high volume low pressure) paint guns and paint machines and maintain equipment.Tint paints using compact color dispenser and perform maintenance on dispenser.Protect work areas against dripping, splashing, and oversprayDisassemble, refinish, and move furniture as neededErect ladders and scaffolding and be able to work on the sameMaintain all painting tools and other equipmentGlaze windows as neededUse high pressure washer to clean surfaces as needed.Removing snow and ice from roofs gutters, and roof leadersBasic carpentry skillsPerform lead testing for painting projects to assure compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency's Lead Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) rule.Identify restoration projects on campus, develop work scope, plan and execute. Preparing records of material and time expendedAttend the Environmental Protection Agency's lead safe training - Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) rule to become a Certified Renovator.Perform lead testing on painting projects and when lead is present follow lead safe work practices in compliance with RRP rule.When requested by Safety and Environmental Compliance Manager perform RRP on areas identified as lead in Lead Inspection Report and document results.Perform research and make recommendations to manager regarding the purchase of new paint products for better performance and/or products containing low VOC (volatile organic compounds) to help reduce carbon footprint.Perform research and make recommendations to manager regarding the purchase of new tools and equipment to improve quality and/or efficiency, and when applicable arrange for vendors to provide a demonstration of new equipment prior to purchase.Utilize mobile devices and a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to receive, document, and complete work order requests.Observing and reporting, through the CMMS, defects, deterioration and wear and tear on the facilitiesOther duties as assigned.Position Requirements:Skills & Knowledge:Ability to work independently and achieve high results with minimal supervision.Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 50 lbs.Respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.Ability to follow verbal and written directions, maintain a professional demeanor and restraint at all times, including stressful situations.Experience:Minimum of three years painting experience.Familiarity working on scaffolding, staging, bucket trucks and ladders preferred.Proper knowledge of working with lead based paint.Education:High school diploma or GED preferred.Physical Requirements:Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, and well as stoop, kneel, crouch and lift requires standing, stretching, bending, walking, climbing stairs, and lifting and transporting a minimum of 50 lbs.Must be able to work in confined areas and areas subject to extreme heat and cold temperatures including inclement weather.Additional Requirements:Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).Clean Driving record (reviewed annually).Equal Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
