Tenure-Track Faculty Positions
The Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) at theMassachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in Cambridge, Massachusetts, invitesapplicants to apply for tenure-track faculty positions in all areas of science and engineeringwith application to health sciences to begin July 1, 2027, or on a mutually agreed datethereafter. Established in 2012, IMES is an inclusive community of students, administrativestaff, research staff, and faculty who research, work, educate, and learn, at the convergenceof engineering, science, and medicine to transform human health for all.
Appointment will be at the assistant professor level. In special cases, however, anuntenured associate or senior faculty appointment may be possible, commensurate withexperience. The appointment will be made in partnership with a relevant science orengineering department. The position will have equal academic responsibilities in IMESand the partner department. Applicants must hold an MD or a PhD in a science orengineering field related to health sciences by the beginning of employment. While allresearch areas are of interest, IMES encourages applications from candidates whoseresearch and teaching interests would be enhanced and accelerated through deepengagement with both basic and clinical partners, and whose research program intimatelyinvolves the development and/or application of advanced computational methods.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
Clinical data generation, analysis, and sharing to improve health care delivery;
The development, testing, and analysis of devices, sensors, & interfaces (mechanical,optical, electrical, chemical), and their products, to advance health care and itsdelivery;
Methods and modeling to understand the impact of environmental shifts on humanhealth;
Deriving insights into human diseases through epidemiological research andmechanistic modeling;
Improving our ability to understand, predict, and manipulate human immuneresponses (e.g., in the context of infectious diseases, neuro-immune interactions, orwomen's health)
The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill all teaching, research, and serviceobligations of a tenure-track faculty member at MIT. Faculty duties include teachingcourses in both the candidate's home science/engineering department and in HealthScience & Technology at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advising students,conducting original scholarly research, developing course materials at the graduate andundergraduate levels, and service to MIT and the profession.

The pay range for a 9-month academic appointment at the entry-level Assistant Professorrank (excluding summer salary): $143,000 - $147,000. The pay offered to a selectedcandidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope andresponsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience and education/training, internalpeer equity, and applicable legal requirements. This pay range represents base pay only and doesnot include any other benefits or compensation.
