Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate andgraduate courses in food and nutritional sciences; developing aresearch program in food and nutrition and securing externalgrants; advising graduate and undergraduate students, participatingin curriculum development; collaborating with faculty on researchand creative scholarship activities; serving on departmental,college and university committees and participating in otheracademic functions.
This is a 9-month tenure track position.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institutionand has been the largest historically Black university in thecountry for the past decade. With an enrollment of 14,311 studentsin Fall 2024, the university offers 59 undergraduate degreeprograms, 36 master’s programs, and 12 doctoral programs. It isAmerica’s top producer of Black graduates in Engineering andAgricultural Science bachelor’s programs, as well as a top fiveproducer in numerous additional disciplines, including Liberal Artsand Communications/Journalism. It also ranks no. 3 in master’sdegrees awarded to Black graduates in Engineering Technologies andRelated Fields, no. 4 in master’s degrees in Engineering, and no.11 best business school for women in the nation.
Nationally recognized for its leadership and excellence in STEMeducation and research, N.C. A&T is classified as “R2-HighResearch Activity” in the Carnegie Classifications and is poised toachieve “R1-Very High Research Activity” status. The Department of Family And Consumer Sciences is one of fouracademic departments within the College of Agriculture andEnvironmental Sciences and is accredited by the AmericanAssociation of Family and Consumer Sciences ( AAFCS ). Thedepartment offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three programareas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: childdevelopment and family relations, child development early educationand family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), consumersciences, fashion merchandising and design, nutrition and foodscience. Additionally, the department offers a Master of Sciencedegree in food and nutritional sciences, a Master of Arts inTeaching in family and consumer sciences education, and a Master ofArts in Teaching in child development early education and familystudies (birth-kindergarten licensure). Faculty members areactively engaged in research that contributes to the body ofknowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing,apparel, textiles and in child and family studies.
Minimum Requirements
Must hold a Doctorate in Food Science or Nutritional Science or aclosely related field with a focus on food biochemistry. Teachingexperience with strong technology skills in classrooms, a record ofscholarly achievement, and grant writing experience areessential.

The ideal candidate will bring interdisciplinary expertise thatbridges food science and nutrition and have experience teachinggraduate and undergraduate courses (such as food microbiology andbio-technology, food safety and sanitation, risk assessment, foodprotection and defense).
