Job Description:
The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at theUniversity of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences isrecruiting up to two (2) tenure-track faculty, at the rank ofAssistant, Associate, or full Professor, as part of a majorexpansion of basic science, interdisciplinary, and translationalresearch. We are seeking outstanding scientists who studyhighly-infectious pathogens, host-pathogen interactions, and/orvaccine/therapeutic development and require biosafety level 3(BSL3) and animal BSL3 (A-BSL3) containment for these studies.Ideal candidates will study highly-infectious pathogens such asMycobacterium tuberculosis, Coxiella burnetii, Yersinia pestis,Rickettsia sp., influenza virus, EEEV, SARS, MERS, West Nile virus,Hantavirus, Chikungunya, etc. The University is undergoing anexciting phase of research infrastructure expansion, including a$7M federal investment to renovate and expand the existingBSL3/A-BSL3 into 6 biocontainment suites, with shared equipmentspaces and biocontainment entry/exit showers, for Select Agent,biodefense, and/or emerging infectious disease research. Topcandidates will expand and complement the existing strengths of themicrobiology and immunology faculty. Candidates are expected tocontribute to the training and teaching of professional,postgraduate, and graduate learners, as well as provideinstitutional service. Candidates will join a highly-collaborative,multidisciplinary research community, and will be provided withnewly renovated laboratory space along with generous start-up fundsand competitive compensation packages. The University and Collegehave numerous Centers of Excellence and core facilities to supportresearch efforts, including the Advanced Microscopy and ImagingCenter, Flow Cytometry Core, Microbiome Consortium, ElectronMicroscopy Core, Histology Core, and other integrated corefacilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidate requirements include a PhD and/or MD degree, anoutstanding track record of research accomplishments/publications,and evidence of external funding from NIH or other nationalagencies. Excellent communication skills are required, both writtenand in person. A commitment to the training and education ofgraduate and medical students is required. Candidates must maintainan extramurally-funded research program.
