Job description
Job TitleCapable of machining, constructing, and/or fabricating fixtures, details, prototypes, or work stations with or without detailed prints. Must have the ability to troubleshoot mechanical or functional issues with fixtures or work stations, repair, or effectively communicate to maintenance the issue in order to resolve the problem. Must be able to operate or use all necessary equipment or tools: fork lift, stand-up lift, chain hoist, machine tools, and measurement devices.Job ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Safety: Responsible to follow all safety procedures and practicesQuality: Ensures and maintains the quality guidelines, procedures, and standards are consistently followed throughout the manufacturing operationResponsibility & Customer-Focused: Troubleshoot tooling problems and equipment mechanical issuesMaintain records, track and order tool-room and project supplies for all tooling activitiesWill assist Grote engineers or outside vendors in the installation of new or revised processes, equipment or work stationsBuilds fixtures and assembly equipment according to printsCasts holding nestsMake new or repair jigs and fixturesCoordinates the heat treating of the tooling, jigs and fixtures utilizing approved outside sourcesPerform any necessary operations within the group to ensure timely repair, installation and changeovers of toolingResponsible to follow and carry out corporate procedures, policies, guidelines, legal requirements, and etc.Integrity: Reports quality or efficiency problems, other matters to the Supervisor for corrective actionRequired to keep the work area clean and orderly at all timesRespect & Family: Assist in the training of employees in the repair and maintenance of all metalworking tools, plastic molds, and fixturesRequired to occasionally direct the work of other Tool-room employees as instructed by the Production LeaderOther Functions:Participate in problem solving activitiesParticipate in Grote Production System (GPS) activitiesMaintain 5S and keep work areas clean and organizedFollows other instructions and performs other duties as assigned by supervisorCompetenciesSafety Awareness Quality Driven Respectful Honesty Customer Driven Family Oriented Responsible Innovative Responsible Corporate Citizen Team Player Positive Attitude Detail Oriented Effective Communication (written and verbal) Results Oriented Process Improvement Cooperation with Others Problem Solving LeadershipEducation, Experience, Training, Certifications and LicensesDegree or equivalent experience: High School diploma or GED Years of experience: None. Training in: As required Licenses in: As required Certifications in: Tool and Die Making Certificate Other requirements: Must successfully pass any pre-screening test(s) Good safety and attendance recordKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge in: All plant equipment related to metal stamping Skills in: Ability to work and manage others Demonstrated ability to: Safely and proficiently set up, program, and operate all tool room machine tools: CNC milling machine, lathe, band saw, surface grinder, press brake, and drill press Proficiently use all necessary measurement devices: caliper, micrometer, gage blocks, depth gages, dial indicators, and thread gages. Use TIG and spot welders as necessary Machine details Install and plumb mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical devices Dress and route cables and air lines in work bench frames To interact with all levels of employees Able to multi-task Experience with: Making models from prototypes and samples from drawings or blueprints Making layouts and calculating die clearances and tonnages Other: Must be proficient in use of a personal computer and data entryTravelLess than 10%Work Environment and Physical DemandsManufacturing and/or professional environment Standing, sitting and walking for long periods of time Able to work overtime as needed Environment can be hot or cold depending on outside temperatures Requires flexibility to schedule and work hours Able to lift 40 lbsPhysical and Mental RequirementsPhysical: Climbing Stairs: Ascending or descending stairs to gain access to a building or to move from one floor to another. Light Carrying: Physically transporting general office items/materials from one location to another. Fingering: Typing for extending periods of time, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm. Sitting: Particularly for sustained periods of time Visual Requirement: Able to see and read PC screens; detect color coding, read fine print, and/or normal type size print. Bending and Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Mental: Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information. Ability to understand, remember, and communicate routine, factual information. Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology. Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule. Ability to understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines. Ability to complete forms, use existing letters and/or conduct oral communication. Ability to compose letters, outlines, memoranda, and basic reports and/or to orally communicate technical information. Ability to communicate with individuals utilizing a telephone; requires ability to hear and speak effectively on phone. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, communicating orally with others accurately.
