Yard Laborer - Torch OperatorTorch Operator – Metal Recycling Pay: $18.00–$20.00 per hour Shift: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday–Friday Lunch: 30-minute unpaid lunch at 12:30 PM Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire Position Overview We are seeking a dependable and safety-minded Torch Operator to join a busy metal scrap and recycling operation in Cleveland. This is a hands-on position working primarily outdoors in an industrial environment. The Torch Operator will be responsible for cutting and processing scrap metal using a plasma torch and other equipment. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a scrap yard, recycling facility, steel/metal environment, construction, fabrication, or another similar industrial setting. Plasma torch experience is preferred, but candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and relevant industrial experience may be considered. Experience operating a Bobcat or crane is also a plus. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential for long-term employment and career growth for the right person.ResponsibilitiesOperate a plasma torch to cut and process scrap metal.Safely handle and move various types of metal and scrap materials.Operate mobile and/or stationary equipment in accordance with company and OSHA safety procedures.Assist with sorting, processing, and preparing scrap metal.Follow written and verbal instructions from supervisors.Safely operate equipment and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).Maintain a clean and organized work area.Assist with general labor duties throughout the facility as needed.Work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced industrial environment.Perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing.Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.Follow all company safety procedures and report unsafe conditions.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsPrevious experience in a scrap yard, recycling facility, metal processing, steel, fabrication, construction, or similar industrial environment is preferred.Experience operating a plasma torch to cut metal is strongly preferred.Bobcat, crane, or other heavy equipment experience is a plus.No specific torch experience is required if the candidate has the right industrial background and willingness to learn.Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.Must be dependable, reliable, and consistently report to work on time.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.Strong commitment to workplace safety.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.Must be able to regularly lift 50 pounds and frequently lift 25 pounds or more.Ability to carry or push materials up to approximately 100 feet.Ability to perform frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and other physical activities.Must be willing to wear all required PPE.Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.Why Join?$18–$20 per hourMonday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PMConsistent daytime scheduleContract-to-hire opportunityLong-term opportunity for growth and advancementHands-on experience in the metal recycling and processing industryOpportunity to develop torch operation and heavy equipment skillsWork with an established Cleveland-area company
