Job Description The neurosurgical unit provides exceptional opportunities to care for a diverse patient population. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams specializing in brain tumors, spinal malformations, neuroendovascular, and epilepsy surgery. This mixed-acuity unit includes both floor-level and an 8-bed high-acuity step-down unit for patients with complex needs requiring hemodynamic and neurological monitoring.
Responsibilities Provide comprehensive care to patients on a mixed-acuity neurosurgical unit.
Monitor patients with complex medical needs, performing Q1 neuro checks as required.
Manage and care for patients with external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, and subdural drains.
Administer intravenous solutions such as 3% NS and manage Cardene drips, arterial lines, and postoperative care for carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, and DBS insertions.
Oversee and support patients with VP shunts and those experiencing seizures.
Qualifications Must have step-down or progressive care unit (PCU) experience.
BLS certification required.
Experience in high acuity stroke and neurosurgery is essential.
Telemetry experience is required.
Current RN License (New York only).
A minimum of two years of clinical experience is mandatory.
ACLS certification is preferred.
NIHSS certification is required.
