American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Wilmington, North Carolina. Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg Discipline: RN Start Date: 11/02/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Nov 2, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring 2 years of experience and NC or compact RN licensure, with night shift and every other weekend commitment. Details Medical Surgical unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with a daily census of approximately 43 Patient ratio of 1:6 Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15 36 and 48-hour contracts accepted, with assignment lengths from 13 to 26 weeks Call required as needed Float required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding Every other weekend required Must be able to work holidays Common procedures include heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, high flow oxygen, and occasional short-term BiPap support Uses Pyxis and EPIC systems with SBAR communication 24-hour unit orientation provided Requirements Active RN license (NC or Compact) BLS certification required; CPI preferred Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Charge nurse experience preferred for night shift Experience with heparin protocols, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, wound care/wound vac, and surgical drain care preferred EPIC charting experience preferred Must pass EKG testing prior to start Skills in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP management and non-invasive airway management preferred Additional Information Provide general medical-surgical nursing care including medication administration, wound care, and respiratory support as needed Participate in unit team meetings held monthly, with additional sessions scheduled for night shift staff May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty incidents Navy scrubs required First-time travelers are welcome to apply Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with separate transportation Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with disclosure of prior employment and facility approval required Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO allowed during first week of assignment; must work 2 of 3 major holidays Local candidates accepted at a local rate within 50 miles of the facility Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually American Traveler Job ID P- .
