Unit Information
CCU: 22 beds | Ratio 1:2–1:3
CVICU: 14 beds | Ratio 1:2–1:3
Critical Care Step-Down: 31 beds | Ratio 1:4–1:5
Med-Surg: Ratio 1:6
EMR: Meditech
Patient Population: Adult and geriatric
Home Unit: CCU
Float: May float to CVICU, Critical Care Step-Down, and Med-Surg when critical-care staffing allows
Requirements
5 years of experience
BLS required
ACLS required
NIHSS required
Strong critical-care/ICU experience
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Required Skills
IV starts and blood draws
NG tube placement
ECG/rhythm interpretation
Lab and ABG interpretation
Critical-care drips and titration
Ventilator management
Arterial lines
Chest tubes
Central venous lines, including large-volume Vas Caths
Assist with bedside procedures and conscious sedation
Effective patient/family communication
Preferred Experience
Experience with:
CRRT
IABP
Arterial sheath pulls
SICU
MICU
CVICU
Neuro ICU
PCU/Med-Surg
Teaching hospitals with resident physicians
Common Diagnoses
Respiratory failure
Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
STEMI/NSTEMI
Cardiogenic shock
Septic shock
GI bleeds
Post-operative GI disorders
CABG patients
Vascular procedures
Equipment
SpaceLabs bedside monitoring
Baxter/Spectrum IV pumps
Kangaroo feeding pumps
Hill-Rom critical-care beds
Ventilators
Prismaflex CRRT
Intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP)
Blanketrol
Arctic Sun
Rapid-transfusion equipment
Fluid warmers
Zoll monitoring
Orientation
Monday orientations
Additional online learning may include:
NIHSS
ACLS/BLS
Moderate Sedation/Analgesia

Glucometer certification
Dress Code
Royal Blue scrubs required
Royal blue scrub pants must always be worn.
Neutral, solid-colored T-shirts, sweatshirts, or vests are allowed.
NAMC-logo apparel is also allowed.
