Required
Active RN State License
BLS
RN First Assistant (RNFA) skills/experience
Perioperative nursing experience
Assist under the direction of the primary operating surgeon during surgical procedures
RNFA functions directly under the supervision of the surgeon during the surgical procedure
Must not function simultaneously as the scrub nurse
Core Mandatory Nursing exams/requirements

Job Responsibilities
Perform professional RN functions including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care
Coordinate, manage, provide, and delegate patient care
Assist the primary operating surgeon in the perioperative care of patients undergoing surgical procedures
Promote cooperation among the healthcare team
Demonstrate leadership and professionalism in the RNFA role
Follow facility policies and guidelines
Report directly to the Director of Perioperative Services
Additional Information
The RNFA is an expanded role of the Registered Nurse.
Position is represented by CNA.
Core requirements listed: Core Mandatory Exam – Nursing, Core Mandatory Parts I, II, and III, RN – Pharmacology A, First Assist – Skills, BLS, and RN State License.
The RNFA does not function simultaneously as the scrub nurse.
