Job Overview
nWe are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for a progressive care unit (PCU) that offers a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in patient care with an emphasis on managing higher acuity patients.
Position Details
n Shift: 12-hour days (06:45 - 19:15)
Target Ratios: 1:4-5, with potential for 1:6 in extreme situations
Contract Length: Minimum of 13 weeks
Required to Float: Floating to like units is necessary
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Orientation: 24 hours
n Patient Population
nThe unit serves patients with various respiratory conditions including:
n Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Pneumonia (PNA)
Respiratory distress
COVID-19
Influenza
Pulmonary Embolisms (PE)
n Required Skills & Qualifications
n Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a similar role
Traveler Experience: Will accept first-time travelers
Certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Skills: IV starts
Ventilator management
Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
CPAP/BiPAP management
n Preferred Skills & Qualifications
n Certifications: National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
n Unit Details & Resources
nThis unit operates with a higher acuity than standard medical-surgical units, supported by a variety of resources including:
n Team lead nurses for supervision
Two respiratory therapists on duty
An assistant nurse manager available during shifts
Access to an Admission/Discharge nurse
Vascular access team on call
Rapid response team and code team
Behavioral health team for additional support
n Special Equipment
nThe unit utilizes equipment including:
n Chest tubes
Intravenous drips such as dopamine, Cardizem, and Heparin
Ventilators, trachs, CPAP, and BiPAP machines
n Documentation & Software
nThe unit uses the following systems:
n Pyxis for medication distribution
Electronic health record system (EPIC)
SBAR for communication
n Additional Notes
nIt is mandatory to pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. Please plan accordingly.
