Job Summary
Providence Saint Joseph's Hospital is seeking an experienced Physical Therapist (PT) for a 13-week assignment in a rural, critical-access hospital setting. The clinician will provide physical therapy services in both inpatient acute care and outpatient settings, supporting patients with mobility limitations, deconditioning, orthopedic conditions, balance impairments, and various medical diagnoses.
The position requires travel between Providence Saint Joseph's Hospital in Chewelah, WA, and its sister facility, Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville, WA, approximately 23 miles apart.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of Physical Therapy experience.
Active Washington State PT license required.
BLS certification required.
Experience in acute care physical therapy.
Ability to work in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Willingness to travel between Chewelah and Colville for afternoon outpatient coverage.
Ability to assess patients, develop treatment plans, document progress, and support safe mobility.
Previous travel experience is not required;
first-time travelers are accepted.
Epic charting experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate patients' physical function, strength, mobility, balance, and range of motion.
Develop and implement individualized physical therapy treatment plans.
Provide gait training, transfer training, therapeutic exercises, and mobility interventions.
Assist patients recovering from surgery, fractures, joint replacements, and acute medical conditions.
Monitor vital signs, pain levels, and patient responses during treatment.
Educate patients and families on mobility, safety, injury prevention, and home exercise programs.
Recommend and train patients in the use of assistive devices, including walkers, crutches, and gait belts.
Complete evaluations, assessments, treatment documentation, and plans of care.
Collaborate with PT, OT, SLP, and other healthcare professionals.
Provide inpatient acute care services at Saint Joseph's Hospital and afternoon outpatient coverage at Mount Carmel Hospital.
Clinical Skills and Patient Populations
Candidates should be comfortable treating patients with:
Acute Care: Weakness, deconditioning, impaired mobility, impaired balance, and reduced functional independence.
Orthopedics: Hip fractures, ORIF, total hip replacement, total knee replacement, shoulder surgery, and spinal surgery.
Medical Conditions: Sepsis, COPD, congestive heart failure (CHF), and peripheral vascular disease (PVD).
Neurological Conditions: Stroke, balance impairments, and other neurological or mobility-related conditions.
Rehabilitation: Gait training, strength testing, range-of-motion exercises, transfer training, and functional mobility assessment.
Work Schedule and Assignment Details
Monday through Thursday, 4×10-hour day shifts.
Work hours: 7:20 AM–5:50 PM.
No weekend coverage required.
No on-call requirement.
Floating between units may be required based on facility needs.
Afternoon outpatient coverage requires travel approximately 23 miles between Chewelah and Colville.
Orientation: 30 hours;
the job listing specifies 0 hours of non-billable orientation, subject to confirmation.
Up to two time-off requests may be considered, subject to approval.
