Job description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Room position in a Critical Access Hospital requiring 2+ years ER experience and willingness to float to Med/Surg and Stepdown units.
Requirements
Active RN license (NH or Compact) required
Minimum 2 years of current Emergency Room experience required
Critical Access Hospital experience required
Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and TNCC required
Emergency Room skills checklist required for consideration
One supervisory signed reference from the past year of employment required
Charge nurse experience preferred
Previous travel nursing experience preferred
Responsibilities
Work in a modern Emergency Department equipped with state-of-the-art technology
Access to TeleEmergency, TelePsych, and TeleNeonatal services via DHMC
Critical Access Hospital setting supporting stabilization, treatment, and transfer of emergent patients
Role is approximately 60% ED and 40% critical access charge duties, serving as backup to Med/Surg and ED
Floating required to Med/Surg and Stepdown units, including taking Stepdown and Med/Surg patients
Night shift schedule: 3x12hr shifts, 7:00 PM-7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
Every other weekend (EOW) requirement
No on‑call requirements
Compact RN license accepted
Provide emergency care alongside ED technicians, Certified Emergency RNs, and board‑certified providers
Work closely with local ambulance services and helicopter transport teams (DHART and LifeFlight of Maine) for critical patient transfers
Support Med/Surg and Stepdown units as part of charge responsibilities
Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility; local candidates will not be considered
Housing in the area can be limited, so candidates are encouraged to research options in advance
Maximum of 5 days RTO may be requested
