Job description
American Traveler is seeking a Labor & Delivery RN for a night shift assignment requiring CA licensure and 2 years of L&D experience.
Requirements
Active CA RN license required
Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience
Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
EFM (External Fetal Heart Monitoring) experience required
AWHONN Intermediate certification required
Epic charting system experience required
Community hospital experience preferred
Previous charge nurse experience preferred
2 supervisor references obtained within the past year required
Responsibilities
Labor and Delivery unit caring for labor, antepartum, mother/baby, and postpartum patients
Circulates for C-sections as part of care responsibilities
Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3
Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
No on‑call requirements
No holiday or weekend requirements
No floating to other units required
Uses Epic charting system
Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum stages
Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, including forceps/vacuum extraction
Manage labor medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and antihypertensives
Perform newborn care duties including APGAR scoring, newborn assessments, and thermoregulation
Provide postpartum care including fundus, lochia, and perineum assessment
Support breastfeeding and lactation education for new parents
Skilled in fetal monitoring, including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
Nurse to patient ratios generally follow AWHONN staffing guidelines
Must reside within a 50-mile radius to be eligible for local candidate rate
Returning staff or travelers must have a 1-year separation before reapplying
Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, with only 1 holiday request approved per contract
Holiday coverage observed for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
Must complete lab work within 3-5 days of contract signing
7-year work history verification required for all candidates
First-time travelers are not considered for this position
