Job description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PACU/Same Day Surgery position requiring VT or compact license and prior same day surgery experience.
Requirements
Active VT or compact RN license required prior to start
Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA)
Minimum 2 years of Same Day Surgery experience required
Experience working in a rural or outpatient facility required
Admitting and discharge experience required
Phase I and Phase II/PACU experience required
IV start experience required
Experience preparing the OR for surgery (pre-op), not just the patient
Strong assessment, IV, and patient education skills required
PACU/ICU experience preferred
Travel nursing experience highly preferred
Responsibilities
Same Day Surgery Center within a critical access community hospital
8-bay unit seeing up to 17 patients per day
Adult and geriatric patient population, ages 16 and older
2 operating rooms and 1 procedure room, primarily outpatient with limited inpatient procedures
Day shift, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM, 32 hrs/week guaranteed with additional hours from call
Call responsibilities 2-3 days/week and call required two weekends per month
Role is mostly PACU but includes stepping into the OR to assist as needed
Uses Cerner EMR
Responsible for admission and discharge of surgical/procedure patients, including nursing admission assessments and Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia care
Must multitask well and communicate effectively with nursing and physician colleagues
Strong time management and customer service skills essential
Hospital-provided scrubs required
Must work two holiday blocks if scheduled: Thanksgiving Day through the following weekend, Christmas Eve through Christmas Day and the following weekend, and New Year's Eve through New Year's Day and the following weekend
Travelers may not take all holidays off
No more than 5 days of RTO accepted, and all requests must be finalized prior to submission
This is a rural community without public transportation, so candidates must have their own vehicle
Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible for this assignment
8 hours of non-billable orientation required
