Job description

Trial Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney

The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office is looking for an experienced prosecutor who is ready for the next chapter of a trial career…not a desk job disguised as leadership.

We are seeking a Trial Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney who brings serious courtroom experience, exceptional judgment, and the ability to make the prosecutors around them better.

This is a role for the attorney who still wants to try some cases, argue motions, develop strategy, mentor prosecutors, and make a tangible difference while taking on a larger leadership role within the office.

If you are an accomplished trial lawyer who wants greater responsibility, meaningful work, and the opportunity to help shape an ambitious prosecution team, this could be your next move.

THE ROLE: COURTROOM LEADER + PROSECUTORIAL COACH

As Trial Deputy Chief ADA, you will occupy a unique space between elite trial advocacy and prosecutorial leadership.

You will handle significant and complex felony litigation while serving as a resource, mentor, and strategic partner to other Assistant District Attorneys.

Your responsibilities will include:

TRY

Take ownership of some of the most complex, serious felony cases and bring your courtroom experience to every stage of litigation—from case evaluation and motions practice through jury selection, trial, and sentencing.

LEAD

Provide experienced judgment on difficult cases, litigation strategy, evidentiary issues, negotiations, and courtroom challenges.

MENTOR

Help talented prosecutors become better trial lawyers. Review cases, conduct mock exercises, strategize before hearings and trials, and share the practical knowledge that can only come from experience.

BUILD

Work with office leadership to improve training, trial preparation, case management, technology, and prosecutorial practices.

COLLABORATE

Partner with investigators, law enforcement, victim advocates, experts, and other professionals to build strong, ethical, thoroughly prepared cases.

REPRESENT

Bring professionalism, confidence, fairness, and credibility to every courtroom and every interaction on behalf of the District Attorney’s Office.

THIS IS NOT A DESK JOB

We are looking for someone who still gets energized by the courtroom.

Someone who enjoys the preparation behind a great cross-examination.

Someone who can see the strategic issue buried inside a complicated case.

Someone who can walk a less-experienced prosecutor through a difficult evidentiary problem at 8:00 a.m.-and then walk into court and try a case at 9:00.

Someone who understands that leadership isn’t simply having a title. It’s making the people around you better.

Preferred Qualifications: WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

We are particularly interested in experienced prosecutors who have demonstrated:

Significant felony prosecution experience.

Extensive jury trial experience.

Confidence handling complex motions and evidentiary issues.

Strong knowledge of Georgia criminal law and procedure.

Excellent legal research and writing skills.

Exceptional courtroom presence and oral advocacy.

Sound judgment in high-pressure situations.

The ability to evaluate cases strategically and communicate clearly.

A demonstrated commitment to ethical and professional prosecution.

A genuine interest in mentoring and developing other attorneys.

The ability to work collaboratively while exercising independent professional judgment.

Especially valuable

Experience with complex or high-stakes litigation, including homicide, violent crime, sexual offenses, organized criminal activity, major drug cases, financial crimes, digital evidence, expert testimony, or other sophisticated felony matters.

Leadership, supervisory, training, or significant mentoring experience is also highly valued.

WHY MAKE YOUR NEXT MOVE TO DOUGLAS COUNTY?

Because your experience should have a bigger impact.

At this stage in your career, you don’t need another position where you’re simply handed a caseload.

You need an opportunity where your experience, judgment, and courtroom skills matter beyond your own docket.

The Trial Deputy Chief ADA position gives you that opportunity.

KEEP TRYING CASES

Leadership shouldn’t mean leaving the courtroom behind.

This position is designed for an experienced trial lawyer who wants to remain actively engaged in significant litigation while taking on greater responsibility.

HELP BUILD THE NEXT GENERATION

Every experienced prosecutor has benefited from someone who took the time to teach them.

Now you can be that person.

Your experience with voir dire, cross-examination, motions, negotiations, evidence, juries, and difficult courtroom moments can become a resource for an entire team.

TAKE ON REAL RESPONSIBILITY

Your voice matters.

The office is seeking someone who can contribute not only as a litigator, but as a strategic thinker and leader who can help identify opportunities to strengthen the way the team prepares and prosecutes cases.

DO WORK THAT MATTERS

Prosecuting cases is consequential work.

The decisions made by prosecutors affect victims, defendants, families, witnesses, law enforcement, and the broader community.

We want attorneys who understand that being tough and being fair are not opposing concepts. We need someone to enforce that credibility, preparation, discretion, and integrity are fundamental to the job.

BE PART OF A TEAM

Great prosecutors don’t operate in isolation.

The most effective cases are built through collaboration—with other prosecutors, investigators, law enforcement, victim advocates, experts, and professional staff.

We’re looking for someone who wants to contribute to that team and help make it stronger.

YOUR NEXT CHAPTER

You’ve already put in the years.

You’ve handled the difficult hearings.

You’ve stood before juries.

You’ve learned that preparation matters, that credibility matters, and that sometimes the hardest part of being a prosecutor is making the right decision when there isn’t an easy one.

Now there’s an opportunity to use everything you’ve learned in a larger way.

Try the cases.

Lead the team.

Mentor the next generation.

Help shape what comes next.

Join the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office as Trial Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney.

If you’re ready to bring your experience to a role where courtroom excellence and leadership come together, we want to hear from you.

Salary Range: Salary will commensurate with experience.
