Job description

Join a Collaborative, Well-Supported GI Team Where Your Voice Is Valued, Your Schedule Is Respected & Your Work Truly Impacts Veterans Across an Entire Region

Two Gastroenterology opportunities are available at the Dallas VA Medical Center (VAMC)-One of the largest and most comprehensive VAMCs in the country and part of the nation's second-largest VA health care system.

Are you looking for the clinical volume and complexity of a major academic medical center without the pressures of private-sector medicine , and opportunity for advancement this is an opportunity worth exploring.

Come practice medicine the way it should be practiced-focused on your patients, your specialty, teaching, and clinical excellence-not insurance company requirements or an RVU-driven production model.

Why Dallas VA?

You will join a robust Gastroenterology & Hepatology program caring for Veterans from across North Texas, southern Oklahoma, and the surrounding region. VA North Texas serves more than 200,000 enrolled Veterans across 38 Texas counties and two Oklahoma counties , creating an extraordinary opportunity to make a meaningful regional impact.

Dallas VA offers the patient volume, clinical variety and procedural breadth you would expect from a major academic medical center , including advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, EGD, colonoscopy and other GI procedures.

At the same time, the practice environment is designed to be manageable and sustainable . Clinic volume is considerably more controlled than many private-sector practices, allowing physicians to spend meaningful time with Veterans rather than feeling pressured to constantly increase throughput.

There is no private-sector-style production or RVU model driving your day.

Two Unique Opportunities

Gastroenterologist - IBD & Academic/Research Focus

The Dallas VA is particularly interested in Gastroenterologists with expertise in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and research . Dedicated IBD fellowship training is preferred but not required.

This position is ideal for a physician who enjoys caring for complex IBD patients and would like to continue developing an academic career through teaching, research, quality improvement and collaboration.

Research experience is encouraged but not required.

You will have opportunities to collaborate with UT Southwestern Medical Center and other VA facilities , while working alongside an outstanding academic GI community. UT Southwestern's Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases has nationally recognized expertise in GI and hepatology, including dedicated IBD research and training.

Gastroenterologist - Comprehensive Clinical GI Practice

The second opportunity is an excellent fit for a well-rounded Gastroenterologist who wants a busy, sophisticated clinical practice with strong procedural volume and tremendous institutional support.

Current, in-depth expertise in EGD, colonoscopy and additional GI procedures .

Whether your passion is general GI, complex inpatient consultation, endoscopy, hepatology or developing a subspecialty interest, Dallas VA provides the clinical environment, patient population and resources to build a rewarding long-term practice.

You Won't Practice Alone

One of the biggest advantages of Dallas VA is the depth of the team surrounding you.

You will have support from:

Outstanding Gastroenterology and Hepatology physicians

Experienced GI nurses and technicians

Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners

Hepatology Nurse Practitioners

Nurse Case Managers

Exceptional cancer care coordinators

Multidisciplinary clinical teams

GI fellows, residents and medical students

Strong administrative and clinical support

The goal is simple: give physicians the resources they need to succeed and allow them to focus on practicing medicine.

The Dallas VA also benefits from its academic relationship with UT Southwestern , creating opportunities for teaching, collaboration and professional development. UT Southwestern faculty include Dallas VA-based GI physicians, an Endoscopy Chief at the Dallas VA, and leaders in IBD and GI fellowship education.

Teaching & Academic Medicine-Without the Pressure

Do you enjoy teaching?

You will have ample opportunities to work with Gastroenterology/Hepatology fellows, residents and medical students in an academic environment.

Do you enjoy research?

Research, quality improvement and administrative opportunities are available, including collaboration with UT Southwestern and other VA investigators.

But you don't have to be a researcher to be successful here.

The ideal physician is someone who enjoys caring for Veterans, teaching the next generation of physicians and being part of a collaborative team.

A Career That Rewards You

The VA offers a highly competitive federal compensation and benefits package, including:

Competitive salary

Annual performance bonus opportunities

Regular federal salary increases

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), subject to eligibility and availability of funds

Federal retirement/pension benefits

Thrift Savings Plan

Comprehensive health, dental and vision insurance options

Generous paid time off

Federal holidays

Paid authorized CME

Professional development opportunities

Federal employee benefits and job stability

Why Dallas?

Dallas offers the best of both worlds: a major metropolitan city with an extraordinary professional and personal quality of life.

The Dallas-Fort Worth region continues to attract businesses, professionals and families from across the country. You will find world-class restaurants, professional sports, live entertainment, museums, arts and culture, shopping, outdoor activities and some of the country's most diverse food scenes.

And when you need to travel, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) provides outstanding domestic and international connectivity and is a major economic engine for the region.

Join a collaborative, well-supported Gastroenterology & Hepatology team where your voice is valued, your schedule is respected, and your work truly impacts the health of Veterans across an entire region.
