Underwriting AssistantThe Underwriting Assistant supports the operational and service objectives of the S&S Transportation Specialty Auto team by assisting with the review, preparation, processing, and maintenance of underwriting and policy information for new and renewal business. This role provides underwriting and operational support through accurate transaction handling, verification of submission and policy data, and timely processing of policy-related activity in accordance with established company guidelines, authority levels, and service standards.Pre-Quote SupportValidate data entry in underwriting systems (e.g., auto and general liability classification, loss schedules).Verify documentation for coverage and limits.Communicate with internal and external business partners to obtain required information and resolve processing-related questionsPost-Bind Transaction ManagementDraft and verify policy documents using internal systems.Approve policy drafts within designated authority; escalate as needed.Book premiums and confirm accurate postings.Issue approved policies and report data to third-party agencies (e.g., Workers Compensation bureaus, DMV).Process endorsements, cancellations, and reinstatements.Team Collaboration & Process ImprovementCollaborate with other departments to resolve policy questions and streamline processes.Participate in system testing and special projects as assigned.Support departmental training, testing, process improvement initiatives, and special projects, as assigned.What you will bring to C&F:High School Diploma or equivalent required.3 years insurance or underwriting support experience is required.Working knowledge of Policy Decisions (Insurity) required with emphasis on Auto Insurance rate & rule applicationInsurance industry experience preferred, with exposure to Commercial Auto or Specialty Auto businessGeneral understanding of insurance forms, endorsements, classifications, and exposure informationStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and other business technology tools.Strong analytical, mathematical, and data review skills.Effective organizational and time management skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks and follow established procedures consistentlyAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.What C&F will bring to youCompetitive compensation packageGenerous 401K employer matchEmployee Stock Purchase plan with employer matchingGenerous Paid Time OffExcellent benefits that go beyond health, dental & vision. Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $36,000.00 to a maximum of $67,800.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee's contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
