The Unit Clerk plays a critical role in the smooth operation of a healthcare unit by managing administrative and clerical tasks that support medical staff and enhance patient care. This position serves as the communication hub between patients, healthcare providers, and other departments, ensuring accurate and timely information flow. The Unit Clerk is responsible for maintaining patient records, scheduling appointments, and coordinating admissions and discharges, which directly impacts the efficiency and quality of care delivered. By handling various documentation and logistical duties, the Unit Clerk allows clinical staff to focus more on patient care. Ultimately, this role contributes to a well-organized, responsive, and patient-centered healthcare environment.ResponsibilitiesManage and maintain accurate patient records, including admission, transfer, and discharge documentationCoordinate communication between healthcare providers, patients, and other hospital departments to facilitate smooth operationsSchedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures while ensuring proper documentation and follow-upAnswer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct communications appropriately within the unitPrepare and distribute reports, forms, and correspondence related to patient care and unit activitiesAssist with inventory management of office and medical supplies to ensure availability and proper stock levelsSupport clinical staff by organizing patient charts and ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accessibleMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentPrevious experience in a healthcare or administrative support role preferredBasic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentationProficiency with computer systems and electronic health records (EHR) softwareStrong organizational and communication skillsPreferred QualificationsCertification as a Unit Clerk or Medical SecretaryExperience working in a hospital or clinical settingFamiliarity with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standardsAdvanced proficiency in healthcare management software and Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environmentAt Bradford Health Services, we are committed to providing exceptional care to our patients while fostering a supportive and rewarding workplace for our employees.
