Job description
Infection Control PractitionerThe infection control practitioner is responsible for disease prevention in hospitals and healthcare facilities and should be well-versed in public health.Core ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the prevention, investigation, monitoring and reporting of the spread of diseasesPatient education and care, as well as patients familiesEducation of staff regarding infection control protocols and policiesImplementation of disease outbreak intervention procedures in the affected area of the facility and notifying public health authorities in the event of an outbreakCollect, record and analyze facility records and lab reports to assess the extent of a disease outbreak and make appropriate recommendations for actionCommunicate with all divisions and departments of the facility and management as well as with public health officialsMaintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and ensure that the facility leaders are informed of appropriate issues; understand and comply with infection control, safety, and OSHA procedures and regulationsOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsMust hold a current State of Michigan RN licenseTwo years experience in a SNF/LTC setting required; three to five years preferredHave primary professional training in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, or other related field; and have completed specialized training in infection prevention and controlBe qualified by education, training, experience, or certification in infection controlComputer literacy skills including Word; electronic clinical documentation experience preferred
