Position Summary
It’s time to see optometry through a new lens. Walmart is revolutionizing healthcare and this is your chance to be part of it. A Walmart Associate Optometrist is the clinical partner to the Vision Center Manager, and core to our mission of advancing eye care affordably for everyone.
Responsibilities
Provide evidence‑based vision care to ensure patient health and well‑being by recommending and prescribing medications and other treatment options (e.g., red eye, LASIK surgery, cataract surgery).
Deliver routine vision care using evidence‑based care guidelines.
Educate patients and store associates on eye health, including contact lens care, disease state management, and safety factors.
Consult with other health professionals to prepare patient care plans, observing optometry scope of practice per state board.
Embrace and operate new equipment technology and advanced instrumentation such as digital phoropters, EMR, and OCT/retinal camera combo.
Apply business analysis to evaluate profitability and risks of business choices, forecast growth, costs, and challenges.
Create a customer‑centered environment, ensuring removal of barriers to deliver exceptional customer/member value, service and support.
Manage optical operations, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures for prescriptions, claims, and associate training.
Ensure safety and quality standards, implement SOPs, monitor compliance with HIPAA and billing procedures.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives, mentor staff, and foster an adaptive culture.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Optometry (OD) from an accredited optometry school.
Licensed optometrist in good standing in the state of practice.
Experience with EMR/EHR systems.
Experience treating and managing ocular disease.
Ability to adopt new equipment technology and advanced instrumentation.
Strong communication, business analysis, and leadership skills.
Salary and Compensation
Annual salary range: $135,000.00 – $200,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional factors: Regional Pay Zone, Complex Structure based on location and external challenges.
