Job description
Key Responsibilities
Conduct stakeholder interviews and user research with vulnerable groups (e.g., elderly, immigrant communities)
Develop user personas and detailed journey maps
Translate user needs into functional and technical design requirements
Create high-fidelity wireframes and UI designs
Develop plain-language, user-friendly content strategies
Build interactive prototypes using tools like Figma
Facilitate usability testing and iterate based on feedback
Ensure visual and design consistency across all platforms
Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders
Mandatory Requirements - Candidates must meet all of the following criteria: Experience: Minimum of 4 years in UX/Product Design
Research & Design Skills: Strong expertise in user research methodologies (qualitative & quantitative)
Experience conducting usability testing and user interviews
Technical Tools: Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
Ability to produce high-fidelity designs and prototypes
Collaboration: Experience working with cross-functional teams (engineering, product, etc.)
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Qualifications Experience designing for multilingual audiences (Spanish, Chinese, Russian)
Experience working with vulnerable populations
Mobile app (iOS/Android) and responsive web design experience
Accessibility expertise (e.g., senior-friendly design, screen readers, high contrast UI)
Experience working within municipal or enterprise design systems
Familiarity with NYC or similar large-scale public sector digital environments
