Utility Billing ClerkTitle: Utility Billing ClerkLocation: South Daytona, FLDepartment: Utility BillingJob Type: Non-exempt (hourly)Salary Range: $18.90 PER HOURRetirement Class: FLORIDA RETIREMENT SYSTEM-REGULAR CLASSPOSITION OBJECTIVESUnder the direct supervision of the Utility Billing Supervisor, performs basic customer service and cashier tasks of routine difficulty relating to collecting fees and maintaining records for customer service accounts. Work is reviewed daily for accuracy, both during the performance of a task and upon completion.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSHandles first response to customer service inquiries by accessing billing software, creating service orders as requested.Explains policies and procedures to customers.Assists customers both in person, telephone and email to resolve account discrepancies.Takes deposits, opens new accounts and finals existing accounts.Receives miscellaneous and/or utility payments, posts to customer accounts or general billing; ensures accuracy of cash receipts, reconciliation of assigned drawer and prepares deposit to be submitted to Senior Billing Clerk.Types, files, and performs other clerical or cashier duties as assigned.Completes monthly and quarterly department projects.Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information and data from a computer.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION, Training and ExperienceHigh School diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency, and a minimum of at least one (1) year of experience involving teller or cashier duties or an equivalent combination of experience and training.CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSValid Florida Driver's License required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIESKnowledge of modern office practices and procedures.Knowledge of computer applications used in general office work.Ability to use modern office equipment.Ability to make computations rapidly and accurately.Ability to work closely with the general public to coordinate account inquiries.Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the general public.PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDSAcceptable eyesight (with or without correction).Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).Ability to communicate concisely both orally and written.Must always be able to drive.Walking, standing, bending, stooping.Sitting.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment is inside/office environment.ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL DESIGNATIONThis position is designated as Essential Personnel. Essential Personnel are those who serve in job functions that are essential to the City's operations and/or its citizens and which are required to be maintained during any severe weather or other emergency condition. Essential Personnel may be required to report to or remain at work during any event deemed to be an emergency by the City of South Daytona.
