Job description
Utility OperatorHanover County Government offers a technical position operating one of the County's water plants, wastewater plants, or water distribution system. The Utility Operator is part of Hanover County's Career Development Program (CD) with four levels: Operator-in-Training, Apprentice, Journeyman, or Master. The CD requires obtaining a Class II Operator License within 5.5 years of hire. The incumbent reports to the Utility Superintendent and supervises no staff.Essential functions include conducting laboratory analysis, monitoring plant or system processes, maintaining operational and maintenance records, assisting with regulatory reporting, collecting samples for analysis, keeping the plant and work environment clean, assisting maintenance personnel as needed, and performing other operational duties as assigned.Working conditions include exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, vibration, repetitiveness, wastewater, office, field - laboratory, industrial plant, outdoors in all weather conditions, and occasional lifting of objects up to 50 lbs. and routine walking up and down a 32 ft. high stairway.Knowledge, skills, and abilities vary with CD level and include knowledge of water or wastewater and abilities, required. Education, experience, and training must meet CD requirements, including achieving Class IV to Class I license depending on CD level.Special conditions include a criminal records check, including fingerprinting, a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License, shift work, water or wastewater license issued by the State of Virginia, pre-employment physical examination/drug test, a twelve-month probationary period, essential staff designation, wearing a uniform including safety equipment, and being on routine on-call.Salary range: $47,198.00 - $85,000.00 AnnuallyLocation: Pole Green Park Complex, Mechanicsville, VAJob Type: Full-time
