Employees who are classified as Utility Operator must meet the following qualifications:Have a working knowledge of the plant, MCC operations and process flow. PreferredHave a reliable attendance and safety record. RequiredHave a strong mechanical aptitude. PreferredBe able to work without constant supervision. RequiredBe able to give and take direction. RequiredKnowledge of safe operations of mobile equipment. RequiredAbility to communicate effectively and efficiently over the radio. RequiredBe Physically fit. RequiredResponsibilities: The responsibilities of a Utility Operator include but are not limited to:Area/workplace examinations of all working areas shall be performed as work begins and documented before end of shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional area/workplace examinations may be performed as conditions warrant. (i.e. changing weather conditions, operation of mechanical equipment changes, etc.)Workplace examinations must be performed to ensure that the employee and his/her fellow workers have a safe place to work. Workplace examinations must be performed completely; cursory inspections are not adequate.The Utility Operator is responsible for addressing and taking corrective actions when capable.If the employee is not capable of repairing an identified deficiency the employee must notify their supervisor immediately and if conditions are unsafe they must initiate stop work authority to prevent any work in the area.Performance of corrective actions shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable federal / state regulations and company policies at all times.The Utility Operator is responsible for performing a complete inspection of assigned work areas to check for any operational and/or mechanical problems with equipment. All identified problems must be reported to the on-shift Production Supervisor. Minor mechanical repairs are to be performed by the Utility Operator. The on-shift Production Supervisor contacted will determine the scope of work and decide if assistance from other departments is required.Examples of minor repairs include but are not limited to:Replacement of broken or missing bolts, screws, hoses, and pipe fittings.Adjustment or tensioning of belt conveyors.Repair of leaks, dust vent and conveying lines.Replacement of filters (air, oil, water, etc.)Tensioning of small belt drives (v-belts)Replacement of torn or damaged small belt drives (v-belts)The Utility Operator is responsible for checking the lubrication, coolant, and fuel levels of all machinery/mobile equipment that the employee operates. The Utility Operator is responsible for adding all proper fluids, and oil.(i.e. winter grease in winter and summer grease in summer)Housekeeping is a primary responsibility of all Utility Operators. Clean up of the assigned work area by the Utility Operator is to be performed daily to remove slip/trip/fall hazards. Clean up of work areas constitutes a major part of the Utility Operator daily work activities. Work activities must be performed while adhering to all applicable federal/state regulations and company policies at all times.Cleanup activities are to be performed daily and not left for other MCC personnel. Major spills may require the assistance of employees from other departments. The determination for housekeeping assistance will be made by the on-shift Production Supervisor.Performance of housekeeping activities should be consistent between all personnel.Utility Operators must maintain a set of tools that must be carries at all times throughout the shift. The tools are to be used by the employee to perform repairs and main adjustments as necessary. These tools are:One 10" and one 12" adjustable crescent wrench.One 12" channel lock pliersOne flashlightOne set of MCC issued work glovesOne set of MCC issued safety lock out padlocks and tags with locks clearly labeled with the Utility Operators name and department.One writing utensilUtility Operators are required to fill out appropriate equipment or operational checklists as defined by the assigned work areas. These sheets are to be turned into the Production Foreman or on-shift Production Supervisor each shift.Utility Operators are required to operate various pieces of mobile equipment. Proper task training and safe operation guidelines will be adhered to at all times. Employees will not operate any piece of equipment without being properly task trained as required by MSHA regulations.Performs all other work as directed.Education & Experience Requirements: Employees who are classified as Utility Operator must meet the following education and experience requirements:High school diploma or equivalent. RequiredExperience working in industrial environment. PreferredPhysical Requirements: The Utility Operator position is safety sensitive.
