Job description
Utilities Operator TraineeThe Utilities Operator Trainee is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with the operation and maintenance of the City's water distribution system, wastewater treatment facilities, and related utility infrastructure. This position provides on-the-job training under licensed operators and prepares the employee for TCEQ certification and advancement.Examples Of DutiesOperations & TrainingAssist with daily water and wastewater system operationsLearn to monitor pumps, blowers, valves, and treatment processesAssist with water and wastewater sampling and testingRecord operational data and support reporting requirementsMaintenance & Field WorkAssist with inspections and basic maintenance of equipmentSupport cleaning of facilities, tanks, and work areasAssist with flushing, leak response, and service issuesMaintain tools, equipment, and work areasCompliance & LearningAttend required training and pursue TCEQ certificationFollow safety procedures and standard operating proceduresLearn regulatory requirements for water and wastewater systemsEmergency & On-Call DutiesRespond to alarms, system failures, and emergency eventsParticipate in after-hours call-outs as training progressesAssist during severe weather and emergency operationsOther DutiesPerform other related duties as assignedTypical QualificationsSkills & CompetenciesWillingness to learn water and wastewater operationsAbility to follow instructions and work in a team environmentBasic mechanical aptitudeDependability and strong work ethicAbility to work outdoors and perform physical laborQualificationsEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalentMechanical, plumbing, or utility experience preferredTCEQ Class D Water or Wastewater License preferred or ability to obtain within 6 monthsBenefitsThis position is not eligible for benefits.
