Job description
Building ManagerThis is a temporary student employment opportunity for students currently enrolled at UM-Dearborn. Work-Study (financial aid award) is preferred, but not required.The Building Manager (BM) is a leadership position with a high degree of responsibility in the area of facilities management within several active buildings on campus. The role of the BM is to reasonably meet the needs of all UUE guests and customers. Specifically, the BM is responsible for the general management and oversight of the two University Unions facilities (RUC and FC) and all scheduled events during their shifts. Additionally, the BM is responsible for supervising and assisting UUE Information and Operations team members, building security, policy enforcement, emergency procedures, and assisting with the room set-ups and tear-downs, A/V equipment, and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the Unions.Under the general supervision and direction of the Operations Coordinator of UUE, the Building Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the Renick University Center and the Fairlane Center event spaces in the absence of University Unions and Events full-time staff.Specific Position Responsibilities include:Identify and resolve any situations that might endanger the customer's safety or violate University policy and procedure.Respond to any unusual incidents or building emergencies by partnering with UUE professional staff, Public Safety, or other emergency personnel; act as the facilities' point of contact on nights and weekends.Oversee the University Union facilities in the absence of professional management staff.Stay informed of changes to facility reservations and events and communicate changes to the Information Team, Operations Team, and other staff as needed.Review daily setup worksheets to ensure that all events are set-up according to plan and direct set-ups for future events. Ensure 25Live printed reports are up-to-date.Oversee all room and A/V set-ups for timeliness, accuracy, cleanliness, and attention to detail.Open meeting rooms and event spaces as needed, and secure rooms when not in use.Secure the facilities in the evening; secure office and departmental areas; turn various systems and equipment off.Make frequent rounds of the facilities and communicate with professional staff regarding issues relating to restrooms, faucets, lighting, and take appropriate action to address situations needing immediate attention.Communicate with Facilities when other services are needed immediately.Assist UUE Information and Operations team members with any concerns regarding room set-ups, additional customer needs, last-minute reservations, MCard issues, or other challenges they cannot resolve.Regularly check to see that all events are functioning normally (proper room set-ups, lighting, temperature, A/V equipment, food service, etc.)Prepare clear and concise electronic shift notes regarding events, issues with staff, guests or service, condition of the facilities, building infrastructure, and furnishings. Reports will include actions taken to address immediate issues, along with additional information so supervisor can start remedying the situationAssist with the maintenance of audiovisual equipment.Assist with maintaining supplies at all facilities.Provide information to students, faculty, staff, and visitors regarding policies, programs, and services.Transport UUE equipment between the two facilities and around campus as needed with a University vehicle.Manage the linen inventory and ensure that all linens are laid before and cleaned up after each event requesting linen.Walk outside the building and loading dock, reporting any activities that may affect events occurring within and outside the building.Manage key check-in and check-out for UUE team members and for the purpose of gaining access to required areas of the facilities.Assist with inventory of furniture, A/V equipment, linens, and ordering as needed.Assist in training and supervising University Information and Operations team members.Required QualificationsCurrent University Unions & Events employeeMust be a current UM-Dearborn student enrolled at least part-timeMust have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, must maintain GPA during employmentLack of judicial or honor offensesAbility to operate and troubleshoot audiovisual equipmentAbility to provide high-quality customer service under varying conditions with diverse customersWillingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekendsAbility to work under minimal supervision and correct errors as neededAbility to functionally supervise other student employeesAbility to repeatedly lift and/or move 50 lbs.Ability to manage frequent interruptions and changes in tasksRequired to participate in regular training and attend weekly scheduled meetingsDemonstrate a high level of initiative, and strong problem-solving skillsBe prompt, dependable, and able to work independently with little or no supervisionAble to work alongside and lead other student employeesWilling to complete a variety of physical tasks without complaint and look for opportunities for improvementMust be a quick learner with the ability to assess situations and make sound, independent decisions, and correct errorsAbility to safely operate a University vehicle; must have a U.S. driver's license and successfully pass a motor vehicle record checkAt least two semesters of experience as a UUE University Information Center team member or Operations team member (if no experience as a UUE Information or Operations team member, significant experience in another hospitality position may substitute)Modes of WorkDue to the nature of the work, the position is onsite.Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
