nJob Description:
nnnAssists in resuscitation of patient during cardiac arrest or other life-threatening events in the operating room.
n
nnSets up procedure/operating room with correct instrumentation and supplies, and cleans instruments, equipment, and room post-procedure.
n
nnIdentifies unsafe or defective instruments/equipment and implements corrective action.
n
nnPerforms other duties as assigned.
n
nnConfirms procedures and determines specific equipment needed for surgical procedures.
n
nnReviews case load, preference cards, and prepares for pending surgical procedures.
n
nnAssists in moving, positioning, prepping, and draping the patient according to surgeon's guidelines.
n
nnProvides retraction of tissues and organs for optimal visualization during surgery.
n
nnAssists in maintaining hemostasis using appropriate surgical instruments and techniques.
n
nnManages placement and securing of retractors, clamps, suture materials, and drainage tubes.
n
nnUtilizes unipolar and bipolar electrocautery and participates in volume replacement or auto-transfusion techniques.
n
nnPerforms harvesting of the saphenous vein for grafting purposes, either as an open-procedure or endoscopically.
n
nnCloses wound layers and applies wound dressings as per surgeon’s directive.
n
n nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
nnnIndividuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and to demonstrate that s/he can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. (Required)

nnKnowledge of Anatomy with a particular focus on cardiac, thoracic, abdominal and peripheral vascular systems. (Required)
n
nnAssist the surgeon in the Surgical Procedures both open and endovascular approaches (Required)
n
nnPrepares and maintains surgical area (Required)
n
nnPerforms intraoperative technical responsibilities for optimal patient care (Required)
n
nnServes as a resource person (Required)
n
n nEducation:
nnHigh School Grad or Equiv (Required)
n nField of Study:
nnCompletion of Certified Surgical Assisting Program
n nWork Experience:
nnn1+ experience as a surgical technologist (Preferred)
n
nn1+ experience in a cardiovascular operating room (Preferred)
n
nn3+ experience as a CFA (Required)
n
nn5+ experience as a CFA (Preferred)
n
n nLicenses and Certifications:
nnnBasic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) (Required)
n
nnCertified Surgical Assistant (CSA) (Required) OR State Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) (Required)
n
nnCertified Surgical Technologist (CST) (Required)
n
