Job description

BOARD-CERTIFIED VETERINARY ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

Arizona Canine Orthopedics & Sports Medicine · Scottsdale, AZ

Arizona Canine Orthopedics & Sports Medicine (ACOSM) is seeking an ACVS board-certified veterinary surgeon (or residency-trained surgeon nearing board certification) to join our growing team as we expand into a 4-surgeon specialty practice.

This is a rare opportunity to join an established, orthopedics-exclusive referral hospital dedicated to advancing veterinary orthopedic surgery. As we continue investing in our team, technology, and infrastructure, you’ll have the opportunity to focus on increasingly complex and rewarding cases alongside three experienced, ACVS board-certified surgeons.

WHY ACOSM IS DIFFERENT

Orthopedics isn’t one part of what we do — it’s the entire practice.

ACOSM is dedicated exclusively to orthopedics, including developmental and trauma orthopedics, acquired degenerative conditions, limb deformity, arthroscopy, fracture fixation, complex reconstructive surgery, and joint replacement — with a strong emphasis on total hip arthroplasty.

Every case that comes through the door, every piece of equipment, every hire, and every protocol exists in service of this focus. If you want to spend your career going deeper into hips, arthroscopy, bone fixation, trauma, and complex reconstructive work rather than splitting your time across unrelated case types, this opportunity was built for exactly that.

We take on challenging orthopedic cases that other practices may decline. That reputation is something our surgeons are proud of and protective of — and it’s central to what we’re building as we grow to a four-surgeon specialty practice.

BUILT AROUND THREE CORE PILLARS:

Uncompromising Clinical Excellence.

Practice advanced orthopedic medicine alongside three ACVS board-certified surgeons with expertise spanning arthroscopy, trauma, fracture fixation, reconstructive surgery, arthroplasty, and total hip replacement. Clinical capabilities include advanced implants and fixation systems, intraoperative imaging, 2D and 3D surgical planning, and a highly trained orthopedic support team.

Client, Student, Referring Veterinarian & Specialist Education.

Education is embedded in how we practice — from one-hour new-patient consultations centered on client education to teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with referring veterinarians, students, and specialists. Our surgeons are actively involved as instructors, presenters, moderators, and consultants through ACVS, VOS, the University of Arizona, Midwestern University, and industry partners.

Orthopedic Innovation, Research & Publication.

ACOSM is committed to advancing the field, not simply practicing within it. Our surgeons have contributed to original and award-winning research, clinical case reports, total hip design and innovation, intraoperative imaging techniques, and patient-specific 3D planning, bone models, osteotomy guides, and reduction guides.

WHAT YOU’LL BE PART OF:

A “PRIVADEMIC” ENVIRONMENT. ACOSM combines the strengths of private specialty practice with academic collaboration, creating an environment where surgeons can focus on advanced clinical medicine while also pursuing research, publication, teaching, mentorship, and professional education.

Client Education as Core Clinical Work. Exceptional communication is part of how we practice medicine. New-patient consultations are structured to provide meaningful time with the surgeon — reviewing imaging, discussing treatment and surgical options, explaining procedures and recovery, and providing thoughtful postoperative follow-up. It’s an important part of why clients and referring veterinarians trust ACOSM with challenging cases.

Collaboration, Mentorship & Professional Growth. Work alongside experienced surgeons, technicians, support staff, industry experts, and key opinion leaders in an environment that encourages case discussion, shared learning, mentorship, and continuous clinical advancement.

A Genuine Seat at the Table. Our partners meet regularly and are actively shaping what ACOSM becomes over the next several years. We’re looking for a surgeon who wants to contribute to that vision, help advance the practice, and build something meaningful over the long term — not simply fill a surgical position.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for a surgeon who shares our commitment to advancing orthopedic medicine and wants to build a long‑term career within the specialty.

REQUIREMENTS

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or VMD degree from an AVMA‑accredited college

Active Arizona veterinary license in good standing (or ability to obtain)

ACVS board-certified veterinary surgeon or residency‑trained surgeon nearing board certification

Passion for advanced orthopedic surgery and sports medicine

Collaborative mindset with enthusiasm for mentoring and lifelong learning

Enthusiasm for contributing to the continued growth and future of ACOSM

PRACTICE & LOCATION

Arizona Canine Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is in Scottsdale, Arizona, within the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. ACOSM combines a highly specialized clinical environment with the opportunity to live and practice in one of the country’s fastest‑growing metropolitan areas, with year‑round outdoor recreation, dining, entertainment, and convenient access to destinations throughout Arizona and the Southwest.

HELP BUILD WHAT’S NEXT

ACOSM is entering its next phase of growth, with plans that include facility expansion, CT capabilities, recruitment of an additional surgeon, development as a Total Hip Replacement (THR) Center of Excellence, and OrthoUrgent Care.

We’re beginning conversations now as we plan for strategic growth over the next 12-18 months, and we’re evaluating fit as seriously as credentials.
